Detailed, practical information - By: , 23 Aug 2003
We chose this book because we wanted to compare expert views of American & British Specialists.
At the early stages of diagnosis we found this book to be overwhelmingly detailed & fairly complex for the lay-person. However, as we went through the processes of prostate cancer diagnosis/treatment we found we wanted more detail & understanding of what to expect & practical advice on how to decide what course of treatment to undergo - this book provided that.
We referred to relevant chapters prior to each consultation which enabled us to understand the terminology & what the next step would be. Particularly useful is the detail on the side effects after surgery & how to deal with them - men find it difficult to be unwell & unrealisticallly want to get back to normal almost immediately. The advice at this stage was invaluable in encouraging the patient on how well he was doing, albeit slower than he wished!
This book certainly has been well thumbed & gave important advice & encouragement to the partner/family.
