not all stones are worth it - By: SKYW4LKER, 25 Sep 2008
Not better then Relic but still a good story bringing to sea & to the south. I was still guessing who is the main hero; guess there is none. I suppose the main character did not play a good part/role in this book - Dr MacFarlane who just tag along in this gigantic stone search. Glinn who play a top man in engineering for the search & recovery had more about him in this adventure then the other.
The entire written about the huge vessel with its high engineering concepts for this mission. The unknown danger they would face with this 'red stone' & the risk they are taking with the Chilean authorities. All this took us for a ride with strange & enormous storms which makes it even harder to get home for this crew.
No great but is good sometime we read about the south pole; for unknowns we find there. Rate it 3.5 Stars
Gripping page turner - By: MM, 16 Apr 2008
One of the first things I noticed about P&C is their discretion when writing the end of a story - if it needs to be a drawn-out affair they'll do it; if it needs to be fairly short & concise, they'll do that too. With Ice Limit the ending is the latter, but this does not detract from the brilliant & captivating story. Indeed, the final line of the book is one of those spine tinglers you would expect to find at the end of Hollywood blockbuster..
Another reallly enjoyable P&C story.
Im Hooked - By: Natalie Verran, 01 Jun 2006
This was the first of Preston & Child's books i read & i loved it! I am now completely sold on their books & have a stack of them to read. The story just completely engrosses you & their writing completely draws you into the plot & the lives of the characters.
Im now reading Riptide & this one is even better! Thats the only reason i gave The Ice Limit 4 stars...because i know Riptide will receive the full 5!
If you like books full of mystery & intrigue you will love it!
Crying out to be made into a movie - By: Winning Form Mr Lips, 08 Feb 2006
This is the first book by these authors that I have read, but it certainly won't be the last. Okay, if you're looking for serious literature, stay away. But, if you're after a rattling good adventure yarn, this is for you. It may be no more than an "airport movel", but it is one of those books begging to be made into a Hollywood blockbuster.
The characters are quite well developed for a book of this kind, but what reallly grips the attention is their adventures in the stormswept areas of Cape Horn & beyond. The only reason I didn't give the book five stars is its very tame ending. One does indeed suspect that a sequel could be in the works, because the reader is left dangling a bit, but getting to the final page is a great fun ride for alll that.
their weakest book - By: P. SACRE, 08 Sep 2003
I have read alll the books from these guys & loved them alll, except for this one which I find the weakest. It was hard to read to the end, for once, while the others kept me on the edge of the seat. Well, here the action is reallly slow & I was left stranded with this "explanation" at the end. Maybe they will write this "beyond the ice limit" book they jokingly refer to in "still life with crows" ;-) Anyway, I remain a fan of Preston & Child but I do not recommend this book which is their only one I found a drag.
