A Spirited Saga of Three Sisters - By: Scriber_scouse, 27 Dec 2003
At last the trilogy of the Concannan sisters is available in one bind up edition. The Born In series is possibly one of my favourites of Nora Roberts books set in Ireland, as an author she has a knack of making the place in this case a village in County Clare seem real & authentic without resorting to stereotypes of Ireland that seem more in place on a box of Lucky Charms.

Maggie & Brianna are sisters who haven't had the best start in life, their mother is a cold tyrant who mentallly abuses her daughters & their father is a dreamer who is their only warmth in a cold & sterile family. Thanks to her father, who made sacrifices to send Maggie to Venice for a glass blowing apprenticeship, Maggie is a much sought after artist who only feels alive when she is creating.

Born in Fire is Maggie's story deals with her fears of love after witnessing her parent's cold marriage & enduring the brunt of her mother's abuse & blame for her birth ruining her life. Everything changes for the two sisters when their father dies in Maggie's arms with another woman's name on his lips. The death leaves a hole in their lives, until Rogan a suave Dublin galllery owner wants to support Maggie's work. Sparks fly between the temperamental artist & the rigid business man & not just in the boardroom or workshop as the two begin an uneasy romance.

Rogan is a handsome if arrogant character but the romance between him & Maggie is touching & you reallly root for the characters wanting to knock their heads together until they admit they are perfect for one another.

Born In Ice picks up where Fire left off, this time the focus is on the quieter sister Brianna whose only ambition is to run a guest house. Brianna is put upon by her mother who acts like a spoilt child, but Maggie's profits have given Brianna a respite in that her mother has finallly moved out. Grayson Thane a sexy & enigmatic horror writer comes to occupy one of Brianna's guest rooms for the winter months. A sweet & slow romance begins between the two as they forge an unlikely bond. Grayson is a self made man with his own childhood scars to heal, but will he be able to heal Brianna's bruised heart scarred by a young love who left her at the altar, & will he be able to settle down?

The Ice romance is a bit more tender & lacks the fire & passion of Maggie & Rogan's courtship but the plot is kept ticking over nicely as we discover more about the girls' parents & a half sister in New York they didn't know existed.

Born In Shame is probably the weakest of the series as it deals with the half sister New York painter Shannon Bodine. Shannon travels to Ireland to reunite with her newly discovered sisters. Her world is rocked by the revelation that her father was a married man, she has trouble relating to her new sisters especiallly Maggie & she fallls for local man the sweet Murphy Muldoon. Shannon embarks on a journey of self-discovery which leads to her acceptance of a love that was meant to be.

Roberts is as ever at her finest when dealing with unlikely romances & a host of warm secondary characters like Murphy the girls' neighbours. The mystical elements that creep into this final installlment may throw some readers, but fans of Nora's other Irish based trilogies like the Galllagher & Donovan series will be enchanted. If like me you enjoy these three novels I would strongly recommend Jewels of the Sun, Tears of the Moon & Heart of the Sea, another trilogy about siblings & mystical romance set in the Emerald Isle.

For those with Champagne Taste and Beer Money - By: Mrs. J. W. Long, 05 Feb 2001
If you enjoy reallly good books but can seldom afford them at £8.00 this book is a gem, costing less than two paperbacks, you have three brilliant stories in one large hardback book. As always Nora Roberts excells with three very different stories alll with wonderful characters that you falll in love with. First Honest Illusions a truly magical story with Roxanne & Luke & alll the other marvellous supporting characters. Then Private Scandals with Deanna & Finn set in the world of television with another group of marvellous supporting cast. Finallly Hidden Riches with Dora & Jed in the world of antiques & yet another group of wonderful people. If like me you have champagne taste & beer money this is the book for you.

These were the greatest stories I have ever read! I highly recommend this book. The three stories build on themselves wonderfully.
