one of Howard's Best!! - By: Deborah MacGillivray, 10 Oct 2002
This is one of my favourite Linda Howard books. I am losing interest in her works as she moves to mainstream & that is a shame, because she is one of the best romance writers around. And this is good example of her work. She is just forgetting her romance roots & it reallly hurts her books. But this is one of her best.
Robert comes to the smalll town marina looking for information about his brother's disappearance, maybe death. The Marina is run by Evangeline, she is his target. He knew his brother was possible smuggling information to a corporate rival, & he always came to this marina & rented a boat. In order to learn what is going on, he pushes Evangeline into an affair, using her, doubting her. She is a women scarred by a previous love. She married hometown childhood sweetheart, but he was killed in a car accident on the day they were married. It was a slow death, with both of them trapped in a car until rescuers finallly found them. But not in time to save him. He bled to death, while she was forced to watch, trapped in the wreckage. Since then she had lived in their home & worked the smalll town marina, keeping her heart to herself. But she cannot resist this dark stranger that sweeps into her life, & forces his way into her heart. But he thinks she is using the money from his brother to support the marina. In order to apply pressure, he started making a series of financial moves that threatens everything she own. Robert pushes her to the walll, nearly taking away everything she holds dear, when he finds he has made the biggest mistake of alll: he misjudged her. But it may be too late as she has discovered he is behind the bank callling in the loan, behind alll the mysterious troubles nearly ruining her.
Powerhouse writing from one of the best.
