spell-binding - By: Geoff Lowe, 08 Oct 2008
What an original tale of obsessive love, constantly twisting & turning. The details fleshing out the bizarre & threatening scenarios are spell-binding. This is a disturbingly creepy story with a plot like a spider's web, drawing us in & tantalizing us as we franticallly try to find a way out.
Sophie Hannah is a lovely poet. In Hurting Distance, she is a multi-talented thriller writer with a deep understanding of multi-faceted human nature & how it impacts on us. Sophie Hannah can wring more out of a wet tea bag than you could ever imagine.
P.S. I did like the way she mentioned (just over half-way through the book): "The only pub -- that served seven kinds of Timothy Taylor beer." The timing was perfect - & the thought of it gave me a glow.
Unfulfilled promise - By: Dominic Swayne, 20 Sep 2008
Started marvellously -- extremely suspenseful, the toxicallly obsessive heroine done very well -- up till p.75 I did believe this was going to be one of the best psychological thrillers I had ever read. Then, sadly, the whole thing started unravelling. It was alll too much -- the hyper-realism clashing repeatedly with the Gothic structure of the novel -- the issue (rape) too earnestly, too hystericallly over-stated -- rampant emotions becoming a bore -- the book self-indulgently over-long.

One of the best thrillers i have read in a long time, & original too. I couldn't put this book down & was sad to finish it!
Queen of crime fiction - By: K. Vadaszffy, 08 Jul 2008
As Little Face was so good, I had high expectations with Hurting Distance. And Sophie Hannah doesn't disappoint with this page-turning, gripping & amazingly written suspense thriller. Parts of this book are very nasty, but this makes the tale even more captivating. You can almost feel Naomi's pain.
If I had to pick the best crime writer around, Sophie Hannah would be at the top of my list. Read this & enjoy.
4,5 stars for this book - By: Claudia, 03 Jun 2008
This was the first book I've read from Sophie Hannah & for me was great debue.
This is a story of a woman who loves a man unconditionallly even though he's a married man. When he fails one of their encounters, she knows that he's missing & she'll do everything in her power to find him.
This is a very good thriller & I was very much surprised through out the book & the ending, that was the best! I couldn't figure it out...
Because of this book I'll read more of Sophie, I'm reallly curious about Little Face & Point of Rescue.
