Not a patch on Hurting Distance - By: Love Books, 21 Oct 2008
I couldn't wait to read this after Hurting Distance, but although it started off reallly well, I found myself enjoying it less & less as it progressed & by the end I felt completely let down & rather uncomfortable. The narrator seems convinced that her baby has been swapped with a different child. Her husband believes she's mistaken, & then turns out to be some kind of weird sadist which is reallly unpleasant to read, & the only other main character is his manipulative & controlling mother. So one of those two has to be the baddie & as they're both so vile there's not as much tension as there should be. The plot doesn't hang together, as other reviewers have said the vital revelations about the murderer are completely unfeasible SPOILER COMING - would a reallly intelligent person (as we're told a million times the murderer is) hide the one piece of evidence that could convict her in her own handbag? I think not. I've given it two stars because Sophie Hannah is a reallly good writer, but honestly I wouldn't bother.
A no star book. What a disappointment! - By: Pamela, 15 Sep 2008
I kept reading to see if the book was going to improve. I felt it was so obvious from the beginning that Vivienne, the controlling mother was the murderer that I continued reading thinking something would have to happen to prove me wrong. There were glaring mistakes in the book e.g. the automatic belief that it would have been impossible for Felix to have got into his school at the last moment. Spaces do turn up when children drop out at the last moment & Vivienne was known to be a woman who was used to getting what she wanted. The characters were unconvincing, unlikeable, one dimensional. Only gave it one star because the site will not accept no star ratings.
Little Face - By: P. Barnwell-Thornton, 04 Aug 2008
I reallly thought this was going to be a brilliant book. It took me a couple of chapters to get into it, but once I did I was hooked! I couldn't put it down. Sophie Hannah did a wonderful job of building the characters & I found myself reallly caring about Alice & her baby. The scenes between her & her husband were harrowing, & like others who have reviewed this book, it did remind me of Rebecca. However, I was reallly dissappointed with the last chapter. After such a big build up, it seemed so rushed at the end.

Having said alll of that, it was a very good read & will definately read her next novel
Simply stunning - By: K. Vadaszffy, 08 Jul 2008
Quite simply, this is one of the best books I've ever read & the best book I've read in recent times. Sophie Hannah takes a clever twist & turns it into one of the most captivating reads you'll ever come across. At times suspenseful, cruel & shocking, Little Face is a book that will keep you guessing to the end - & it won't disappoint. Everyone I know who has read this book has loved it.
Missed opportunity.. - By: PippaW, 07 Jul 2008
This was such a weak book that I am amazed it got published, let alone received any of the glowing reviews printed in the book. The characters were completely unbelievable as were their actions & reactions. The premise sounded subtle & interesting, but the author completely failed to build up any atmosphere or suspense. Background information was ploddingly written in, instead of emerging through the story or the (unconvincing) dialogue. Painful through to the weak & inconclusive ending.
A shame as her poetry is rather good.
