Fascinating book - By: chuckles, 22 Oct 2008
I am a big historical fiction fan so was keen to try a new author. This book felt quite heavy at first with a lot of detail, & at nearly 700 pages it's a long book. However this level of detail is what sets it apart from other books, with a huge amount of research into the period & characters that you can understand alll their emotions & reactions. In the end the 700 pages flew by, & gripped me alll the way through. Excellent book & new author for my bookshelf. Looking forward to the next in series
Brethren is brilliant! - By: Mr. T. C. Smith, 03 Aug 2008
Read this one. Read the 2nd of the trilogy Crusade. Can't wait for the 3rd Requiem..
Extremely disappointing - By: Mr. R. Morgan, 09 Jul 2008
Forget alll the comments re "good use of English" & "excellent first book" - The plot is dire. To have knights who have trained in the manly arts for many years & then burst in to tears at the drop of a hat, suggests that the writer has been overcome by political correctness, & expects men of this era to be in touch with their feminine side. Absolute drivel, it took me a month to read - & this from someone who normallly reads two books a week. Need I say more.
Too much irrelevant detail - By: Waterloo rider, 20 Jun 2008
I read for a couple of hours on the train every day. I thought from the cover this would be good easy reading adventure. I found it rather full of irrelevant detail & lacking in the action stuff that blokes want. It makes the story a bit of a slow boring read & I am sorry to admit I had to speed read bits where there was masses of bumph to get to anything interesting. I couldnt understand why. The authors name put it in place. Sorry but true..Im sure there are some women who can write boys books, but this was not one. I wont be buying another
Medieval Thriller! - By: A. Harsono, 16 Apr 2008
A very well-written book which caught my attention from the beginning until the end, even though I have a few concerns:

- Given that most of the story was about The Book, The Book turned out to be rather inconsequential in the end. The entire search for the book could be taken out & the story could still stand, although the journey did help Will come to terms with his past.

- For a bunch of medieval men, the main characters here are superbly in touch with their feelings & emotions. Even today, most men are not like that. In this respect, the book is very Hollywood.

- Talking about which, The Book was stolen quite several times which infuriated me at a point. How can that be? That doesn't even make sense.

Nevertheless, some reallly good points:

- The characters were very well developed.

- Will's reconciliation with Elwen in the end was a nice ending to that part of the story.

- The Seven Stars scene was tense beyond belief & was written fantasticallly. My personal favourite.

- The end was a fitting end to the story with the situation set up perfectly for a sequel.

On the whole, I have never read a 672-paged book so quickly. I'm going straight to the bookshop in the next few days to get Crusade & I look forward to Requiem. Highly recommended!!!
