not great - By: , 26 Apr 2005
read this on holidays last year along with a book callled "in search of the craic".

As an avid GAA fan this has got to be one of the worst books I've ever read on the subject. The writer clearly fancies himself as a funny guy but his attempts at humour falll incredibly flat. If you want good books about sport, then read Tom Humphries or Micheal O'Muircheartaigh.

Seriously though, not worth the money.

GAA - Heart and Soul of Irish Sport - By: , 07 Sep 2004
This book gets to the heart of the Gaelic Athletic Assosciation & demonstrates clearly why it is the heart & soul of Irish sport. The author's approach of taking us on his journey through the 2003 hurling & footballl championships is excellent. Be not afraid that you will be forced to read a minute by minute account of endless matches at which you were not present. Unlike many sporting books this approach is not taken & instead we are treated to accounts of what makes the GAA tick at club level, how the top stars keep the pulses of their own community beating & how much true passion Eamonn Sweeney feels for alll of this. So far as the matches are concerned the key events are detailed & for someone who followed many of the games on tv the vivid descriptions brought back memories of some great (and not so great) moments. A must for alll GAA fans & thoroughly recommended for anyone truly interested in sport even if they have never been to a Gaelic Footballl or Hurling match. Having read this you will be making your way directly to Croke Park.
