A Trilogy to Read - By: N. Hartley, 12 Apr 2007
Please try this trilogy even if you have never read AH's books before (see above review for order they are in). They are brilliant! She captures the spirit of the age perfectly so you almost feel as though you are learning as well as enjoying an thoroughly good fictional book. I love alll of AH's books & am determined to read them alll! If only she did more trilogy's like this (although a lot of her books refer to people in others she has written). Please try if you are interested in historical fiction (with a bit of romance & drama thrown in!!).
Reflections of the Past - By: , 06 Nov 2005
Audrey Howards three novels (1)Reflections of the Past,(2)Distant Images & (3)As the Night Ends chart the lives & loves of the Goodwin family through the late 1800's to the end of the first world war - do read them in the correct order to reallly appreciate & enjoy the full story.

The story beings with Abby Murphy deprived, poor & beautiful being cataputled from a life of misery to one of great richness & a loveless marriage with Noah Goodwin - but love grows & blossoms & the birth of her twin daughters completes her life - albeit the babies have different fathers.

Distant Images continues the story of the beautiful, spoilt & headstong Goodwin twins Milly & Beth, their struggle to find real love & emancipation for women & finallly As the Night Ends continues with the trials of the children of Milly & Beth struggle through the deprivation & hardships of the suffragette movement & then the unspeakable horrors of the First World War when the family live through the agonies of the dreadful war.

In alll three books we meet strong minded women Abby, Milly, Beth, Alex & Rose true Howard heroines. Women who fight & struggle against the greatest adversity life can throw at them but who triumph every time in the name of love & their devotion to their men folk. Always with the help of kind & devoted servants, in fact, you feel you actuallly know these people!!

These books are in my opinion by far the best ever written by Audrey Howard & over the years I have enjoyed many of them!!
