A good debut - By: Coma white, 30 Jun 2008
It took me a while to get round to starting this book after picking it up fairly cheap it sat on my shelf for a couple of months.
The opening to this book is reallly good it grabs the reader & doesnt let go & I loved the whole idea of 'The Remnant' being totallly out of control. There are some genuine shocks through out the books & the lead characters are reallly well portrayed however sometimes I found the pace lagging & thats why I havent given it a higher rating.
I will definately be revisiting Gardiner & Evan Delaney but its not top of my list.
Well worth a read - By: lmhh, 24 Jan 2008
China Lake is fast-paced, well written & scary in it's depiction of some of the more extreme elements of religious belief. The heroine - Evan - is as gutsy & risk taking as you need her to be & there are various handsome & flawed men to get acquainted with along the way.

The plot hangs together, & the book has sufficient twists & turns to be interesting on the way to a climax which has plenty of redemption, & just desserts being doled out to those who have proved themselves corrupt and/or insane.

Stunning Debut - By: D. Paterson, 21 May 2007
Like so many other people, it was on Stephen King's recommendation that I bought China Lake, & he was right, I wasn't disappointed.

Meg Gardiner is an author who knows how to build suspense, manages to incorporate plenty of twists & turns to keep you on your toes, & in Evan Delaney, creates a character who seems as real as any fictional character can. I don't want to get into discussing plots, & risk giving anything away, so I'll just finish by echoeing Stephen King's recommendation - buy the book - you won't be disappointed!

An American's perspective - By: BOOKREVIEWTOO, 01 Apr 2007
I have read three of Meg Gardiner's books now in the past three weeks, man oh man are we alll just lemmings or what? A celebrity tells us something is great & we alll jump off the cliff. I bought them alll without even reading a word, pathetic! For the genre, ala female hero, mystery woman, this is good. The plot is feasible, the characters build with each passing book & they are generallly fast reads. The only thing I would wish for is a bit of tightening from an editor on these. There are moments of mind wander because of what I would deem as "filler". With a good 50+ page trim the suspense would be more dramatic. I won't go into explaining plot, because the previous reviewers have done so. If you like the Alphabet mysteries, the culinery mysteries then this should be your cup o tea. Speaking of tea, when will the Brits get a US publisher to push Ms. Gardiner onto this side of the pond, so she can climb a few of the bestseller lists due to distribution & readily available titles in our stores? Oprah? Stephen King? Imus? What will we alll read next or should I say, WHOM?
Meg Gardiner's Sassy Protagonist Is A Breath of Fresh Air - By: Susan H. Ransom, 05 Oct 2004
In Meg Gardiner's China Lake, we finallly have a chance to see a strong, sexy heroine outside of the Romance Genre. Gardiner has a unique way of making you feel as though you're sitting in her kitchen while she tells you the latest incredible adventure of her best friend. With great wit & style, she develops her characters & literallly catapults you through her story. Definitely one you can't put down.
