do not use this book to revision. - By: Nadia Khan, 06 Jan 2007
After using this book to revise for my unit 1 exam, i found out that this book is for the purpose of class work & other activities, & that three quarters of the stuff in the book, you dont need to know for the exam. However the book does have good picture drawings & clear information,i think it's directed at visual readers especiallly. Still this book is good, but seriously dont use it as a revision guide, use the cgp AQA spec A one - its REALLY good!!!
Very good - By: Dominic Wrein, 18 May 2006
My college encourages us to buy this book, its concise & sticks to the syllabus. I bought it last year & got 91/105 in my Unit 1 exam! Hurray. Didn't buy the A2 one for the unit 5 exam in january & just scraped a B with 64/90. Have just bought the A2 one now off of amazon, & will hopefully improve my grades for the last 2 exams i have left in Biology "oh yeah, & my resist from january :("
A good book - By: , 29 Nov 2002
As a biology student who finds it quite hard to grasp many key points from my notes, I found this book very good & quite easy to understand. Its specific to the AQA A syllabus & contains most key points in short summaries. It has a good use of pictures & some diagrams but the Index is muddled in some areas. I also found that a couple of topics didn't go into enough detail & you have to rely on your notes. It has some good past paper questions too, but unfortuntaely no answers!! I find this quite dissapointing as you can't see what you are/aren't getting right. I also have the follow up book which is good! But still no answers to the questions!
AAArgh! - By: Jenny, 21 Jun 2002
This should have been a good textbook. To be fair, it's ok - the syllabus is covered in just enough detail, & the brief introductions to the chapters do give a bit of extra background, but I get the feeling that this was rushed to the printers in just too much of a hurry. The index has become a running joke in our Biology class, but the fact that you don't reallly need an index is what I don't like about this text. Now, this might seem odd to alll the syllabus-obsessed powers that be out there, but there are students (myself included) who are actuallly interested in the subject for its own sake, & would like a bit more depth on occasion. I found that there simply wasn't enough meat to this book, so I bought one of the old-style A-level texts after the first term. I'm glad I did.

By alll means buy this book as a core text - it could be a whole lot worse - but don't expect any more from it than that.

excellent coverage of AS syllabus - By: , 21 Mar 2002
this book has alll the essential information you need to learn for the AS modules. When revising for them last year, I did not use my class notes at alll but revised solely from this book. It is also an excellent guide to compliment your classwork & clarify difficult areas.
