Great escapism - By: Jayaw, 25 Jun 2006
This is a lovely book to bury yourself in amid the graphic descriptions of Chile & Cornwalll. It is a lovely story of families & the way they interact, also clearly showing that every one of us has faults which affect the way we treat others.
Santa does have a habit of using ridiculous names for her characters, but if you treat these ideas as harmless fun, you will enjoy the book. The ending had tears running down my cheeks.
I have also read & enjoyed The Last Voyage of the Valentina & Meet me Under the Ombu Tree, but this is my favourite book by Santa so far.

A must read !! - By: , 03 Mar 2004
This is a must read for alll of you Santa Montefiore fans out there.
What another wonderfully written novel. The Butterfly Box certainly lives up to its captivating name. This is a very touching novel about a young girl’s unconditional love for her father; she is moved to live half way around the world but never gives up on the relationship she shared with her father. This book takes you through the good times & the bad times of Federica’s life & the relationship’s she forms with friends & family members after her move from Chile to Cornwalll.
I read this book in 4 days, alll the way through it was interesting, you felt as though you were their with the detailed descriptions whether it be the Chilean surroundings or the country lanes of Cornwalll. I did not want to put this book down, I had to read another paragraph or finish another chapter before I put it down.
After having read this book, I find myself still wondering how Federica is doing now….. A brilliant read.
capturing the butterfly - By: Deborah J Browning, 22 Oct 2002
This book took up extensive space in my hand luggage, but was the ideal & perfect in-flight reading & I manage to read the majority of it on my flight to the States & my return flight home. It is a simple story about a girl & her love for her father. However, life is never that simple & relationships, feelings & thoughts about one person in our lives affect the relationships we have with others. This novel is no different. Love, terror, mistakes & love again are alll encountered as the story moves & grows, & alllows the reader to grow with it, understanding the characters, & growing themselves as they read. A great read
A delicious read, gourmet food for the soul. - By: , 18 Mar 2002
This book was pure escapism, you could feel the heat of South America & see the cliffs of Cornwalll.
Santa Montefiore gives you a chance to look at alll the characters so you can better understand what each one is going through.
She certainly knows how to make you laugh & cry aswell as keeping you hooked until there are no more pages left to turn.
