In my opinion, no other mystic offers instruction on the spiritual path in such a systematic & helpful way as St. John of the Cross. This book is unique too, because (as far as I know) there is no other non-academic work which explores John's ideas so thoroughly & carefully.

It's a book to be read slowly, though, as John talks of a world & an experience which is utterly beyond & above most of our imaginations... yet one, he assures us, that is open & available for us alll.

I can't recommend this book enough. It gave me hope, courage & inspiration - I hope it has a similar effect on you.

This book takes John of the Cross off the shelf & out of the incomprehensible realm of 'mystic'. Matthew succeeds in making John's teaching relevant without compromising John's message. No smalll task but one for which modern readers should be grateful. I am.
