A charming plot of someone looking deeper than the skin. - By: Imoen Paige, 15 Jan 2006
I read this as a young teenager & I still remember it as a touching story. I empathised with the "unpopular girl's" consciousness of her weight & appearance as we are in the days where if you're not a size 10 you're fat. Tony is easily recognisable as the jock-popular guy that fit a lot of immature male sixth formers today. Allan Frewin Jones' prose flows easily with gentle humour.

The plot isn't new; unpopular girl is partnered with popular boy, Tony. Tony is at first horrified, then a friendship blossoms under the problems created by the scrutiny of peer pressure. However, the humour is its saving grace & creates a lovely read for young teens & above. It's short but perfectly sweet. A good egg!
