Classroom behaviour - beyond 'top tips for teachers' - By: , 25 Feb 2005
In a library or bookshop filled with books giving 'tips for teachers' on how to deal with 'naughty children', this book is a refreshing change. It places children into a rounded context & helps us to understand how environment (especiallly the adults) around a child can make a huge impact on his or her behaviour.

Another appealing aspect of this book is its focus on the positive. So few conversations or texts look at what happens when an intervention goes well & a child's behaviour improves. Miller considers why we don't talk about our successes & gives some insight into what does make for an effective intervention to change classroom behaviour.

This book left me feeling optimistic that, if we look at children's behaviour as a product not just of their own problems but also of the environment around them, we can find ways to include alll children in our classrooms - even 'the naughty ones'! An excellent read for teachers, educational psychologists & educational policymakers.
