Good WWII Story - By: J.Flood, 06 Nov 2007
Jackdaws is set during World War II, in the days, just prior to the D-Day landings. An alll woman team is trained to attack a telephone exchange, vital for the German war effort, located in a heavily guarded a French chateau.

The story is seen, mainly through the eyes of British secret agent, Flick Clairet, & German intelligence officer, Dietrick Franck, who is trying to track her down.

The plot is fairly good, & there is no real dull moments. There are a few parts, in the book where the story can be a bit unbelieveable, as mentioned by other reviewers, such as how quickly the women are trained for the mission, but I would not let that put you off. A pretty good read.
I'm not a speed reader but.... - By: J. C. Meredith, 26 Oct 2007
...I whizzed through this book & enjoyed the ride! This book is set in WW2 & in Kens usual style has 2 threads running throughout the story which makes for a compelling read. One thread follows the British agent & her attempts to "jolly well give the Gerrys a damn good thrashing", whilst the other is a top military German officer who is trying to whip a main Gestapo unit into shape to avert the British agents from succeeding in their task. Their paths cross & boy is it fun! If this wasnt enough, Ken Follets characters & situations are very interesting & there's enough familiarity in them for you to relate to. EXCELLENT!
simply great gripping read - By: Ms. S. De La Haye, 10 Jul 2007
I have not read ken follett before & to my opinion i thought it was great
easy to get into very gripping, also did not want to end this smooth flowing
suspense of a read. I will be reading more of his very soon
Gripping and quite horrific in parts - By: John Hopper, 18 Dec 2006
A brilliant, gripping story of women SOE members. I was reallly involved & desperately hoping they would alll survive. Some shocking moments as well, such as the Nazi treatment of the old lady whose house is used by the Resistance & the Resistance's execution of Stephanie.
OK but not more - By: , 09 Jul 2003
This is only "just another thriller". It is interesting & would make a good movie but it most definitely does not rate among Ken's best works (Pillars of course, also Night over Water, Lie down with lions ...). The plot is ok - but predictable - & the only original thing in this is the woman commando, a little used concept in the WW2 thriller genre (at least what I have read so far).
Well, many writers would be glad to have their name on this book but Ken can do much better, & he did in the past.
I hear the next book (Hornet) is also a WW2 story, I hope I can enjoy it better.
