page-turning trash - By: Roman Clodia, 27 Aug 2005
this is a good holiday/plane read where you're looking for something light & easy to keep yourself occupied, but certainly isn't brain food - the heroine is pretty irritating & her decision about her boyfriend at the end quite inexplicable to me. I also found it very strange that as a professional Egyptologist with a PhD in the subject she'd never been to Egypt before... If you're looking for something better written with more of a flavour of Egypt try the Amelia Peabody series by Elizabeth Peters
Drama and Adventure in Modern Egypt - By: Imperial Topaz, 23 Nov 2002
When I saw this book in the library, I picked it up immediately as I am both a fan of Robin Cook, & interested in ancient Egypt. This book is not a medical thriller. I'd say it's half way between a drama & thriller.
I reallly enjoyed reading this book, & read the whole thing over two days. I could hardly put it down. I have personallly spent time living in Egypt, & can tell you, Robin Cook has reallly done his research, making his Egyptian characters come to life, in the way that Egyptians REALLY DO think & act. Most novelists would miss this, as they don't understand the Egyptian personality. This reallly made the novel realistic to me. I absolutely loved the hereoine, & could reallly identify with her. I could imagine being an Egyptologist, & going to Egypt in her place. I also liked it that she stood up to her doctor boyfriend, had her fling there as well, & comes out in the end having learned a lot about herself, & about Egypt. A good mix of drama & adventure, sent in modern Egypt.

I thought this book, although a good read & as usual with Cook, well written, was a bit boring. It didn't have much excitement & was quite predictable. A good read for someone intersted in Egypt but for the rest of us...A little boring
