One of her best..... - By: Kathleen Kelley, 17 Oct 2006
This is one of the author's best. I read her Regency romances when I was in high school & now am re reading them. (I am 51) They are as charming & well written today as they were when first published. I highly recommend alll except an Infamous Army. That was the only one where the romance didn't make any sense.
THE TOLL GATE - By: S M CLARK, 22 Jan 2006
I Have read alll georgette heyer novels this one is in the same style as the unknown ajax & the nonesuch, in this book captain john staple is a wonderfull hero & there are a lot of characters from a bow street runner to a highwayman I liked this book as it has a charm alll of its own.
The Toll-Gate - By: , 16 Nov 2005
This is classic Georgette Heyer, gentle & terribly well mannered with a typicallly spirited heroine. John is a worthy suiter & the eventual outcome is pretty obvious from the start. However the many twists in the plot & the immaculate attention to period speech & costume are as wonderful as ever. I've read over forty of her fifty or more published works & this would creep in at about number 10. Try it, then try The Grand Sophy, in my opinion the incomparable Heyer at her finest.
My favourite Georgette Heyer so far. - By: , 01 Aug 2001
This was the second Georgette Heyer I read, having been given an old copy by my Aunt. Being very talll myself I identified with the heroine Nell & fell in love with John. Their romance & the background mystery made the whole book a delight.
