Perfect Depth for Dental Students - By: Mr. M. J. Hicks, 16 Jun 2008
I used this book a lot for the first year of dental school, & I found that it goes into the right amount of depth needed for the histology part of the course. I tried Wheaters, & also the images are better than Stevens & Lowe, the content is somewhat sparing & if does not go into enough detail for a pbl based course.
Hisology - no probs! - By: N. T. Southorn, 03 Jan 2008
This book fills in the blanks nicely. It's well written & backed up with easily regognisable photos. The authors have related much of the book to clinical conditions keeping the reader focused (especiallly those on clinical courses). I used this book as part of my physiotherapy degree & it reallly suited me as I like my books to cut the waffle & get to the point quickly.
I agree with the authors in that Oesophagus looks prettier than Esophagus! But that is no reason to loose a star hence the 5/5 rating!
Average-ish histology book - By: K, 23 Jan 2007
Human histology is a good histology book but not great as although it has a lot of detail it has nowhere near as many micrographs as Wheater's.
Also it seems to have reclassified connective tissue as 'support tissue' & divides it up in different sections which is reallly annoying because most lectures, textbooks, websites, etc. will still refer to it as 'connective tissue'.
Minor gripes aside the main problem is the lack of photos, [...]
Clear and concise - excellent! - By: , 21 Jun 2004
A distinguishing feature of this book is the extensive use of colour micrograph images. Unlike some textbooks in this area, every image uses stained human tissue. The content is divided into the different cell types, followed by the body systems. The design alllows each chapter to be both detailed & readable. This is achieved by the use of coloured text boxes dividing the clinical examples & references to practical histology from the main text. The practical references assist the student in identifying the samples when using a microscope themselves. There are highlighted key fact sections for revision & question & answer reviews at the end of each chapter. An excellent clear & concise learning resource for the undergraduate medical student.
Great for Anatomists! - By: , 11 Feb 2004
If your studying a course that features heavily on histology this book will provide a soft introduction & give a good reference & study aid for the coming years. Its language is easy to understand & I throughly recomend it. Most of the work featured in the course is in the book only this is in colour!
