Very VERY disappointing - By: sucker for a great hero, 20 Nov 2008
Finallly, the story of Acheron. After the long wait, I am left feeling cheated & very disappointed.
The first section of the which details how Acheron came to be is raw & gritty, heart rending in places, & quite contrived in others.
Despite the never ending chain of horrific & brutal events of his early life, I read on, hoping that the second section would see the emergence of the Ash I'd glimpsed & become fascinated by in the earlier novels.
Was I ever wrong!
Instead, he seems more like an ill developed character than true hero. The fact that he has endured so much is testimony to his strength & power - a fact that is rarely reflected in the last chapters. This I feel is as a result of Kenyon concentrating more on section one & just tossing words together in section two.
This was the story I was waiting for, & I feel cheated that it did not deliver.
Acheron's relationship with Soteria lacked substance & believability, which is quite sad considering they are critical characters. This is Acheron, for crying out loud, the most powerful of them alll! Where is the intricacy & substance of his story?
loved it!! - By: Penny Harvey, 26 Oct 2008
Can't reallly add anything to the other reviews - if you have read the others in the dark hunter series - then you have already read this one!

If not - why on earth not?

Downside - it ended!

Can't wait for the next one & please, please please - when do we get Nick's story???

Adored It! If I Could Give It 10 Stars, I Would! - By: Imani, 02 Oct 2008
I have waited for so long for this book, I just snapped it up when it came out - although I had to wait for some time before starting it because I wanted to 'take my time'. I've always loved Ash's character in the DH books & we got hints of his life throughout the Dark Hunter series - especiallly in Zarek's book, where Ash lets Zarek 'see' his a part of his past where he too was treated badly by his father.

I absolutely adored it! It's over 700 pages long and, from the very first page, we're riveted. I resented having to put it down - even to sleep! Drove my husband crazy - oops...!

Having read a most of Sherilyn's 'DH' books, alll JR's 'Black Dagger' books, & alll Christine's 'Dark' series, I have to say that 'Acheron' tops the lot. To me, his is THE ultimate hero. Loved him. Loved Ryssa, Simi (always) Tory & her friends. Loved Appollymi (that surprised me!). Couldn't stand Artie (no surprise there), Styxx (until later) & alll the other bad guys in his 'family'. I laughed, I (actuallly) cried, I felt elated, I felt real terror in places. I just loved the book. SK takes this well-loved character, & the series, to a stratispheric level. Unlike some other series I've read recently, this one definitely didn't disappoint me.

But don't take my word for it, readers - or the word of the other 19 5 star reviewers... JUST BUY IT!

A must for all Artemis haters! - By: Lulu, 27 Sep 2008
To finallly read about how Artermis get her just dues & not from Ash but someone else, makes it alll worth while for every humilation, abuse, pain & degradation he suffered.

I'm not going to give a review of the story itself, many have done a great job of it, but will give my feelings on it.
I so much wanted Ash to have his HEA that it was simply torture to read the first part & suffer right along with him. When the second part started I had to take a few moments to compose myself from that rollercoaster of raw emotion from Ash's suffering.
Ash is a sweetheart & truly wonderful hero. All he wanted was to be accepted & loved for himself. The second part is more reminscent of her DH novels but with a slight difference in that Ash is not a true Dark Hunter but human/god.
The heroine, Tory, is just what Ash needed, someone who loved him totallly, regardless of his differences & his past.
I reallly liked Appollymi. From previous bks she comes across as evil but here you find out what she's truly like & the immense love she has for her son, & the lengths she would go to protect him.
Loved the fact that Tory is just like Apollymi in the sense that she would do anything to protect Ash. But unlike him, she would kill to save him, even if it means destorying everything, including mankind.

This is a 5* read my only complaint is that the second part should have been a a bit longer. Despite this, it does wrap up nicely & it's wonderful to see the Dark Hunters from previous novels alll band together to help Ash rescue Tory. Even Styxx, whom I absolutely hated in the first, redeems himself in the second part.

I like alll Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter books but this one I simply loved. It finishes off the Dark Hunter's series nicely, according to the author this arc is over & she now moves to another arc starting with Stryker. And I'm looking for to this new direction the series take & to Nick's book. Nick is not truly a DH since Stryker owns a bit of him, & as this bk ends it seems Nick is fallling into the clutches of the heifer-goddess. (though I seriously hope not)
I like the character of Savitar, hope he gets a bk too.
An Excellent read.

Well done SK!
Gritty, emotional, humorous, and just plain fabulous! - By: Romantic Fiction addict, 24 Sep 2008
I just finished reading Acheron, & i loved it. The first half made me cry in more than a few places, alll the horrors of Ash's human life are laid bare, & the word emotional doesn't even come close & the second half was just as moving in it's own way, there were parts of it that made me laugh, (Ash getting buzzed on Sprite, fallling down the ladder, & dancing to disco!) & parts of it that brought tears to my eyes, Tory sticking up for Ash with Artie, 'Ash is the man i love, & anyone who takes issue with him, takes issue with me' had me cheering, finallly someone who can & will touch Ash like he matters. I liked the fact that Tory was 'normal', that made her alll the more endearing in my eyes, it goes to show that love can pop up when you least expect it & in the most unexpected ways, & that sometimes, you don't have be a 'Barbie' to end up with 'Ken'! I've read the whole DH series in 2 months so i still have a clear picture in my mind of alll the other books, & imo opinion it just felt to me in the 2nd half of the book, we got to see the real Ash, whereas in the other DH novels he was always holding most of himself back & putting on a front.

Judging from the end of this book, i definately don't think we've seen the end of Artie... can you imagine if her & Nick ended up as a couple further down the line?!!

The only weakness in my eyes was the ending, but then we haven't seen the beginning of One Silent Night, it may alll become clear then, & i'm sure it will! I would have also liked to see Jaden feature a bit more in the end so we can see how his arc is going to start off & be worked into the equasion. I'm already highly anticipating his story, & hope i don't have to wait too long!
