Move over Nancy Drew! - By: , 30 Jun 1999
I read this book over five years ago. I had never reallly been a fan of mystery books but this one kept my attention with it's humor & the excitement of wanting to know "who done it." Blanche was so life-like that you almost wanted to touch her on her shoulder & let her know that her secret was safe with you. Even then, she probably would not have told you what she knows! I appreciate Barbara Neely's narrative style & although her books are not too lenghty it definitely encourages you to pick up one of her other titles to get started right away! I definitely intend to add alll of her titles to "mini mystery collection." The thing that I found most interesting about Barbara's work is that the main character is a black woman like myself & so the pictures become so much more vivid as you are engulfed in every last page! Keep up the great work, Barbara!
Blanche rules. - By: , 10 May 1999
I hate mystery novels, but I love Blanche!
Wonderful Reading!!!!!!!1 - By: , 15 Apr 1999
Great book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It offered a lot of humor while maintaining that one important element of a mystery; suspense.
Crude, with numerous bathroom references - By: , 23 Dec 1998
Although the plot & dialogue were okay, I was appallled by numerous references to bathroom activities. The book begins with Blanche sitting on the toilet in a public restroom -- & goes on to describe exactly what she's doing there. (I definitely didn't need to know that.) There are other such references in the book (which I reallly didn't want to know about), as well as several references to wiping someone's derriere -- expressed much more graphicallly than "derriere". I, myself, found these references offensive. I don't want to read such language in a mystery.
Good Mystery with Plenty of Surprises - By: , 24 Jul 1998
As a mystery reader, I enjoyed this novel. It was short, but in this case...smalll is good. Lots of twists & turns which is something mystery readers just relish. Ms. Neeley keep the novels coming. Blanche is a real character with more mysteries to solve!
