Lovely designs - By: The Urban Gypsy, 17 Jun 2008
Although I love the patterns in the book I prefer my shawls & wraps to be more ethereal than chunky so I think that I will have to adapt her designs to be worked in much finer yarns.
She is a great designer but does cater solely for the US 'everything has to be chunky' market.
The Blue Curacao shawl was the design that I ordered the book for but I do like quite a few other designs in the book. If you want lacy designs quickly made in thickish wol then this is the book for you.
It really is amazing! - By: K. Roycroft, 25 Mar 2008
This book is a wonderful idea & I enjoyed reading about how the author converted her designs from traditional 2-D items into elaborate looking 3-D clothing. The range of yarns used is interesting & has helped me to branch out & try new things. The pictures are clear & give you an idea of the way that your work will come together. The instructions are good for people of alll skill levels & learning to SC without making a chain stitch was well worth it! The construction of these items is reallly creative & I reallly love the designs.
Amazing Lace is inspiring - By: H. Bell, 24 Jun 2007
I like this book because it gives a fresh twist to traditional lace crochet. I think most reasonably experienced crocheters could easily decide on alternative yarns for the patterns (yes, they are mostly yarns from the US), & Doris Chan does give very detailed instructions.

The patterns work up quickly, & do require a bit of faith to think they will work - but they do. There are so many traditional crochet patterns available for those who want to work with smalll hooks & thin yarn - its nice to see someone taking this craft to a different level.
Good Ideas & Pretty Projects - not quite enough information - By: Sheena Mckinnon, 14 Jan 2007
I will start by saying that I do like this book. It does inspire me to try many of the techniques shown. I certainly will be adapting some of the patterns, too.
Why not just make the lovely patterns as they are?
Well, the yarn is difficult & expensive to find in the UK. There is no information on alternatives beyond "or other suitable yarn". The size ranges for some items are reasonable 32" to 42" but at least one is available in 32" bust only, & others seem to be rather vague.
Gripe over, I can say that this book would inspire a keen crocheter to have a go at the patterns or even to attempt to design their own crochet lace garments.
This inexpensive book is still value for money & I would recommend it to anyone with some crochet experience.
