I hope we get this book talked about in the US. It seems again that "not-invented-here" thinking in New York & Hollowood is suffering from a lack of vision or possibly outright restraint of international trade in Arts & Letters.
Corporate America is ruining the publishing business. Much as they have turned the film industry into a no guts-no integrity derivative of former glory & future potential; they have tried to absolve themselves of any creative risk, cultivation of new talent, or just seed planting for future growth.
The "stand back & see how it does" approach taken by the marketing drones who decide what books get promoted & which ones "find an audience" without any promotion at alll is gutless.
In the case of a highly successful blog, it would seem that the writer has already established her voice, & found an audience, & this should make the risk on the part of the publisher smalller. It should also take some of the mystery out of identifying the demographics of the potential buyers.
How many homogeneous books will the average reader buy before the remarkable sameness starts to drive them nuts?
We Americans stick to selling detergent & cola beverages. What value does the publisher add when they can't do as well as the author on her own, without the promotional machinery which is about alll that is left of the once exciting world of publishing?
Fresh, interesting, funny; a jumping off point for a great new lady of literature. I am deeply impressed at the desire to keep one's identity private. It seems she has her priorities straight, & refreshing level of personal integrity.
The reader begins to care about Belle & her fate. I do not need to see her face or know her name. I want to wonder if any woman I pass on the street might be her...
