Not as comprehensive as it should be - and you still need classes! - By: turtle worm, 06 Apr 2008
I got this book & CD to go with the Hypnobirthing classes (which you are supposed to attend, with the book as an 'add on'). Afterwards I felt very positive about childbirth (two months to go now) but was frustrated that there was not enough detail about practising hypnosis on my own. In the end, I found **HYPNOBABIES** - a five week home study course, complete with 6 CDs, weekly guidelines for learning 'medical hypno-anaesthesia' & I feel much, much happier & confident about my ability to birth in comfort (lots of Hypnobirthing mums do the same & those that don't often freak out during 'transition'). With Hypnobabies, you learn "eyes open" mobile hypnosis, so you can move, talk, lie down etc., & still be completely comfortable & relaxed. I'd recommend a search for Hypnobabies, developed after the developer got frustrated at how little support she was able to offer her Hypnobirthing students. However, even Hypnobirthing is better than 'what to expect'... & even if you have a complication during your birth, you will have had a relaxing, enjoyable & calm pregnancy.
You MUST read this book! - By: Rosie Goode, 24 Mar 2008
We are surrounded by so many negative stories & images of birth that it's often hard to imagine how wonderful birth can be. HypnoBirthing is science based & shows clearly how women CAN ENJOY a wonderful, normal birth - easier, quicker, safer - an amazing experience for mothers & babies (and partners). I was so impressed that I trained as a HypnoBirthing teacher. Read the book, find a HypnoBirthing teacher, practice the easy techniques & you too can have a wonderful birth. Increasing numbers of midwives throughout the UK are impressed by HypnoBirthing, seeing women enjoy a calm, normal, beautiful birth, as nature intended. You've nothing to lose & EVERYTHING to gain - for you & your baby!
Brilliant, effective & common sense - By: C. Copeman-Bryant, 16 Mar 2008
I read this book & attended a course when I was pregnant, & had the most incredible birth. Imagine getting to 8cm without knowing it & to the amazement of midwives. My birth was comfortable, exhilerating & wonderful. I'd recommend this book to everyone.
It's not just the breath.... - By: Claire E. Hartley, 27 Jan 2008
I used this book & delivered a 8lb 2oz baby with 25 hours of labor with NO pain relief. I also had a doula who had studied hypno-birthing present at the birth. There are many factors going into a birth that might cause you to tighten up against the contractions & i believe that this approach reallly helps you route them out if your willing to do the work. I had an incredible experience & I believe that the task of delivering your child without pain meds if you can, is worth every second. As well as the breath techniques it is also about your deep belief that you are fully capable of giving birth any way you want & that the contractions are taking you one step further to the ultimate act of creation. I believe it's time we re-claimed our birth experience out of the hands of the medical establishment & their time tables for how it alll supposed to occur & take our rightful place as Mommy Warriors!
Great:) - By: Mum of 2, 18 Jan 2008
This book helped me have a homebirth-my son was born at home & weighed over 9lb! It was incredible, no pain-relief what so ever. I had 2 student midwives there, one had never been to a birth & the others said to her that she wouldn't see many births where the mum was so calm & chilled!
I practised the breathing & as soon as I started having surges I started doing the breathing & just rocked back & forth on my balll. Definetly would recommend it.
