Scarily accurate predictions for the future - By: Bootsy, 11 Mar 2008
If you're interested in current affairs, & how/why politics & the related financial areas ufold then track this book down. It deals with what the author calll 'megapolitics'-the fundamental issues that are the hidden drivers to current events, the past & the future.
The bottom line-the Western world is in decline as the costs of projecting military power rise to crippling levels, while the costs of resisting this power ('defensive technology') continues to falll, thereby making it easier for smalller nations/groups to have their own say in the world. Global politics will become more fragmented & fraught as the world's policeman, the USA, finds it impossible to restore order & act as 'the strong arm of international law' due to it's inability to control countries thanks to the declining cost of defensive weaponry.
The authors then go on to explain what they believe the impact of this will be on the financial world.
The edition of the book that I own was written in 1988 (I think), & it predicts that in the future, due to the fallling price of weaponry, any group with a grudge will be able to hold a larger power to ransom. Sound familiar to you?
I'm sure that by now, many other books have been written on this subject. But considering that this was written before the falll of communism (and predicted it's falll), & the fact that no-one was thinking this when it was published, means that it is just as valuable, if not more so, than those other books that were published in the light of certain events. It has changed my view of world politics, & has changed my view of the EU. I now see it as a counterbalance to the inevitable falll of the USA, because without it the world will falll into chaos. That is the beauty of this book-because it was written so long ago-you have to do your own thinking with the info & the tools that it provides you with-it isn't going to lead you by the hand. Absolutely brilliant. Please reprint!!
