Poorly presented - By: Mr. O. Keenan, 03 May 2006
This book should reallly be described as a booklet, because it is an A5 sized manuscript that contains only 84 pages.

The material is presented in a most unorthodox manner - material is arranged into chapters & sub-chapters, but these are not presented on the different pages, for example - p19 contains the two final sub-chapters of chapter three, & the first section of chapter four!

There are very few tables, no diagrams, & references are provided in a manner which is difficult to follow & look them up without the aid of a computerised search facility.

New developments in the ELT field are included - for example CALL - but these are rather poorly described & insufficient space is afforded. Indeed, the entire document suffers because it is clearly designed to be succint & it attempts to cover a wide range of material that should be dealt with at length.

In writing the review I have attempted to consider whether or not the booklet is indeed a "handbook" for English teachers. Indeed, it "scratches the surface" of a great many issues - but it is very hard to find the information in the first place!

However, White does include a great deal of useful information - & this book can be read from cover to cover. There is nothing in this manual that isn't contained in any other good ELT textbook.
