Brilliant read. It has been the basis of many discussions in several of my classes this week. I am a science teacher & I have been making a point of describing to my classes how lucky they are to have a school. I for one will be raising funds through various sources for this fantastic cause.
Insightful and inspirational - By: J. Stephens, 07 Jan 2008 Whilst I struggled with the style in the early pages of this book it quickly became very compelling. It gives an extraordinary insight into the northern areas of Pakistan - not just the politics but how the community functions, the role of religion & what is needed. This is a particularly interesting perspective given how region & its issues are currently being covered in the press. The story of Greg Mortenson & what he went through to build schools in Northern Pakistant & later in Afganistan is truely inspirational.

But don't be deceived, this is not a fairytale with a happy ending, Greg Mortenson is candid about the journey he has chosen, the mistakes that are made, the low points & the threat of failure. What makes his story truly remarkable is how he deals with the setbacks that life throws upon him & how, with a little bit of luck thrown in "one ordinary person, with the right combination of character & determination, reallly can change the world." Read it, enjoy it & be inspired!

It is extremely timely to understand the region, religion & rulers of Pakistan & how education not war will stop the battles. This book should be required reading for alll to show what one person & a strong will can accomplish. The book shows how one individual can make an impact on a remote region of the world.
Brilliant book - totally inspiring - By: aje123, 28 Oct 2007 A previous reviewer said they wanted to buy a copy for everyone they know, I felt totallly the same way & have ordered 15 copies for Christmas presents. It reallly is that good. This account of one man's mission to build schools in Pakistan & Afghanistan is not only a fascinating story about the work he is doing but also an interesting insight into what life is like for people living in these two countries which, though they feature so often on the news, seem far away from our own lives. Thanks for a great book.
