Percy Jackson - year 2 - By: Wyvernfriend, 10 Oct 2007
At the opening of the story, Percy has almost succeeded in surviving a full year without suspension in a school. However the attacking monsters put paid to his plans & he has to run away. He runs to the safest place he knows, Camp Half-Breed, to find that it too is overrun with monsters. The magical borders of the camp have been poisoned & someone has to go on a quest for the golden fleece.

The chosen person isn't Percy, it's his arch-nemesis Clarisse, but Percy goes after her & has a very Odyssian adventure.

This series is a fun re-telling of the Greek myths putting a very modern spin on the stories. The only improvement would be to add in some suggested reading.
Unputdownable! - By: E. F. Clancy, 02 Sep 2007
My 10 year old daughter disappeared for just over 2 days whilst she read this, surfacing only to eat. She is hooked on Percy Jackson, please write more Mr Riordan.
Lightning Strikes Twice - Another Monster Hit! - By: Chrestomanci, 10 Sep 2006
I've been awaiting this sequel to "Percy Jackson & the Lightning Thief" with eager anticipation - & it certainly didn't disappoint. It has everything that made the previous book one of my favourites of last year, with the added advantage that the characters already felt like friends!

Once again, from the point of view of a regular adult reviewer of children's books, I could see where most of the plot threads were leading - but younger readers, (possibly less familiar with Greek legends & heroes), wouldn't have this problem.

Again, the boarding school setting leads to inevitable comparisons with Harry Potter ... & on the whole Percy Jackson stands up well. (Normallly, I thoroughly object to the media's habit of comparing alll books to HP - but in this case, the paralllels are unavoidable). So far, I haven't found the whole hidden world of the Greek Gods in Manhattan as believable & well realised as Harry's community of wizards secretly inhabiting the Muggle world. Hogwarts has a texture & meticulous attention to detail that, as yet, Camp Halfblood lacks, making Percy's world not quite as convincing. However, the writing, (done from the first person POV of Percy & in a style far closer to the wit of Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl, is often sharper & funnier than J K Rowling's latter books.

This is an outstanding book - & I'm already looking forward to the third in the series!
Simply Stunning And Plot Twisting To The Very Last Page...Literally - By: Kirsty Watson, 29 Jun 2006
I read this book today & i have to say it is brilliant. It takes place a school year after the events of The Lightening Thief & it's just as good if not better.

Percy has had a very uneventful school year with not one moster attacking him which has made him very on edge. He's made one friend(who happens to be homeless, poor & not to mention slow) & he's having strange dreams of Grover who seems to be in trouble. When monsters finallly attack durring his dodgeballl game & Annabeth turns up to help scratched & looking rather worse for wear Percy realises something's very wrong. They arrive back at half blood hill to a terrible sight; Thalia's pine tree has been poisoned & the border between Half Blood Hill & the mortal world is failing. What does this mean for Percy & the rest of the half bloods? A whole lot of trouble & the realisation that in their world nothing is as it seems & whatever Kronos's plans are he is just about ready to put them into action which will spell the end for half blood hill & the rest of the world too.

This book reallly concentrates hard on the prophecy that both Annabeth & Chiron know about & Rick pulls so many unexpected twists your head is left spinning in the best possible way. With new & old foes, with action & adventure & with the last twist on the book on the last page you are left wondering what the fates & the future have in store for our demi-god Percy Jackson.

All in alll a fantastic book & i cannot wait for the next one which is due out early 2007, everyone who loves to read should definitly check this one out.
