The most inspiring book i have ever read - By: R. Durham, 23 Apr 2008
I strongly, strongly urge you to buy this book. Not only is it a fascinating read & a reallly entertaining story, the message behind it is utterly inspiring & one which needs to be spread to as many people as possible. If only there were more people in the world like Greg, the man is incredible. I can honestly say that it has fundamentallly changed my views on religion, politics & the best way to make the world a safer place for everyone. Everyone i know who has read it feels the same. You won't be disappointed.
Absolutely Brilliant - a must read - By: Mrs. Suzanne Hulkes, 22 Apr 2008
This book came up on the Abe Books site (sorry Amazon) as a recommended read & i can endorse their comments completely. Once started I could not put it down - Mortersen has unbelievable determination & is able to convey this through the book so the reader feels his passion too . The way to promote peace & fight extremism of alll kinds is surely through education & I agree it should be compulsory study at secondary school level. The book will give you a fantastic insight into the lives of people living in areas the west would consider hostile -reading it makes you re think your own views & want to open your mind to what is generallly reported in the press.
6 stars wouldn't be enough - By: Dr. Max J. Palmer, 19 Apr 2008
This book is fantastic. It is an inspirational testament to the power of change that one person can unleash on the world if they are determined enough to make something happen. It is also a reminder of the strength of education as a tool for positive social change. What Greg started & he & his dedicated team now achieves deserves alll our support. It is also a wonderful, deeply compassionate & often truely gripping tale. I would like to give it far more stars than Amazon alllow, so instead I intend to pass it on.
Read this book & then do something. You will be inspired.
Amazon, can we have a monthly 'six star' book award please? This title certainly deserves it.
Thank you Greg, for doing something magic. Thank you David, for alllowing us to know about it.
A gripping read - By: Martin, 12 Apr 2008
This is compelling book & once opened I found myself totallly gripped by the fascinating story which unfolded. I bought this book after reading a magazine review & despite being a little unsure that the subject would appeal to me. I need not have worried. Everyone should read this book & I'm convinced no one could remain untouched by it.
This should be essential reading for all secondary school students. - By: Pumpkin, 01 Apr 2008
I was, until my very recent retirement, the Headteacher of a Church of England primary school where 90% of pupils were Muslim & a majority of those came from the Punjab or Kashmir. I don't normallly read non-fiction, but was attracted to this book because of its links to both education & the South Asian Muslim culture.
How glad I am that I chose it. What an inspirational story! I read it in two days. It gave such a true reflection of the real Islam, one which values education & most importantly values the contribution that women make to society. It reflected my experience of the Muslim culture over the many years I have worked with Muslim children & their families. I am neither a Christian, nor a Muslim, but have found that true Christians & Muslims respect each others faith.
Greg Mortenson endured great hardship, two fatwa & long separation from his family to pursue his dream of educational provision for alll the children living in those isolated mountain or border regions. What a humanitarian! He reallly should be awarded the Nobel Peace prize.
