I have always loved the Ahlberg's books but this one is my absolute favourite. The wonderful & humorous
illustrations are matched perfectly by the funny rhyming story & combine to create a cosy little world to get lost in. My 2
& 4 years old children can't get enough of this book. A true classic.

Some time ago we bought copies for both of our sons although they are no longer children & Vagras has a daughter of his own. Buy, read, read, enjoy, enjoy, love & keep. Be happy with your book.

The image of a gang of robbers attempting to ruin Christmas being thwarted by the work of Officer Pugh is both funny & intriguing & will keep your child hooked to the end.
Once bought never forgotten (this is probably the only book i properly remember from my childhood) this is a book you'll be forced to read time & time again to your children but won't mind doing so!!!!

One of the greatest kids books ever! - By: Vagras, 10 Aug 2004 As a boy I could not get enough of this book. I still can't. The pictures are great, the characters are instantly understood & the simple rhyme commits to memory in seconds. What little boy would not want to be Officer Pugh saving the kids toys on Christmas eve? Although I definitely have a soft spot for Peg-Leg Horace, & the picture of him handcuffed round a tree.
As an adult I still talk to my Dad about this book & how much I enjoyed it when we read it together when I was little. And now as a dad-to-be, imagine then how happy I was when I received a new copy from my parents to read to my child when he or she is old enough (although I think it may have been sent for me rather than the baby)! It is solid gold & a must for any parent to get their kids reading & more importantly to enjoy it.
