A delightful combination of Wollstonecraft genius - By: , 05 Jan 2002
These three wonderfully contrasting & yet psycologicallly intertwined novels are placed aptly side by side giving even greater insight into the mother-daughter relationship of Wollstonecraft & Shelley. The book's presentation & format is of the usual high standard of the Penguin Classics range & includes a marvellously informative introduction by Janet Todd. It is so intriguing to see Wollstonecraft's innovative feminism alongside her daughter's passionate portrayal of the hetereosexual relationship. I particularly loved Shelley's Matilda, rich in deep-felt melancholey & burning with desire. Tackling the extremely taboo issue of father-daughter incest this is a brave novella, whose sub-text has a far-reaching insight of bereavement & it's effect on our lives.
