HAVEN'T SMOKED FOR 5 YEARS AFTER READING THIS! - By: IndrielAngel, 09 Jul 2008
I gave up (again) & was suffering the usual feelings of withdrawal, so in desperation I ordered this book to help me. By the time it arrived, I was desperate for a cigarette & wouldn't have been able to resist much longer. The book was wonderful. I read it in a day, put it down & that was it. Reallly, I haven't wanted a cigarette since. (And I used to smoke 30 a day!). I've lent it to others & they've stopped, too.
I can't recommend it highly enough.
Sorry but did not work for me - By: William Blake, 08 Jul 2008
I have wanted to give up for ages but tried everything.
Someone suggested this book & the reviews are good, so I thought i would try it. I first read the Womens edition & I did this with a positive frame of mind. Good book, he makes some good points, but sorry, it did not work for me. So I tried the normal edition, I read it half way through & just knew it was not going to work for me either.
I think it is great that it has helped so many people, and Allen Carr makes some good points, BUT I found it to be annoying, preachy & patronising.
I was going to go to one of the Allen Carr group sessions (which use a smalll dose of Hypnotherapy at the end)these cost £220, but you can get 2 hours with a Hypnotherapist for that. I understand that Allen Carr actuallly gave up using Hypnotherapy! I decided that I would try this route for myself. So I made sure that i found a reallly good Hynotherapist, & I have been a non smoker for a week now!!!!! brilliant, no cravings,no agony, its so easy & it works! I cant believe that I gave up so easily after smoking for 25 years. AMAZING!
I wish I had done this years ago.
Just like Magic! - By: A reader, 05 Jul 2008
I have smoked for 25 years & tried everything to stop - hypnotherapy, patches, tablets, willpower. Nothing worked. It always felt as though I was being forced to give up something I enjoyed. I had read Allen's book once before, but still felt as though I was missing out on something, so I started smoking again. A few weeks ago I was thinking about my dad & how he died from a smoking related disease & wished I could just stop, like that. I was clearing out a cupboard & found my old copy of Allen's book. I decided to just take my time reading it again, if only to work out why it didn't work for me.
By the end of the book, I just didn't want to smoke anymore. I no longer felt that I was missing out on anything, rather the opposite. I no longer wanted to stand out in the cold & the rain in order to have a fag. And the feeling of freedom was amazing!
Stopping smoking doesn't make you a different person - actuallly, stike that, yes it does - it makes you a better person. You no longer feel a slave to cigarettes & you no longer have that little voice in the back of your mind telling you that there is a strong possibility that you will die of a smoking related disease. It reallly is a feeling of being free.
try it. What have you got to lose? You can always smoke again if you reallly want to, but I doubt you will.
the world can't thank Mr Carr enough - By: Blanche du Bois, 04 Jul 2008
I have smoked for 13 years 5-10 cigarettes a day. In the last few years I have contemplated quitting, but never felt I could do it. I knew that I wouldn't last quitting only with will power, I definitely didn't believe in the NRT. I stumbled across a recommendation of this book on an internet forum & thought, that this might be it. I will try. Went to the book shop immediately, got the book, read it in about 10 days - slowly & carefully, & quit. That was three months ago. And I know I won't smoke again ever in my life. Mr Carr developed a very clever, kind & unpatronising method & in my opinion he needs a posthumous Nobel Prize for what he has done for millions of people so far & what he will keep on doing for millions of people in the future. My boyfriend quit as well, 3 weeks after me & is a very happy non-smoker. Mr Carr RIP.
if you're serious about giving up smoking, you MUST read this book - By: Ex Smoker, 28 Jun 2008
I have smoked for 14 years - I am 37. I have tried everything to give up - cold turkey, hypnotherapy, chinese medicine, alll new health regimes, & nothing came close to truly freeing me from 'missing/wanting/needing' ciggis.Unitl this book. It is soooo weird. I just don't want to smoke any more, & it is truly great. All you need is to reallly reallly want to give up. I read the book over four days, smoking always as i read, & believe me, by the time i had come to the final chapter, I couldnt wait to stubb the ciggi out & get on with my new life. Go for it - what have you got to lose?
