As a basketballl player,this book was interesting. As a homosapien, this book was excellent. Not only does Jim Carroll have a talent for basketballl but he also has a talent for writing. In the book, he describes everything he feels in such a way that would make you feel as though you were there with him. This book is funny, entertaining, & leaves you drawing up a perspective on life in the same way that Carroll does. I also reccomend the music of 'The Jim Caroll band' which has as much feeling as his words do. A great book for just about anybody!
A twisting cult book of true life dramas - By: , 05 Feb 2000 When I first read this book at the age of 15 (4-5 years ago now) I was so enthrallled. Its one of those books that you can't put down, & want to read over & over again. Now, even after alll this time, I am still re-reading it.
It dipicts a life so different from my own, yet despite this, I could & still can, relate perfectly to alll the feelings & emotion bought upon Jim during those teenage years of drug addiction & violence.
This is most definitly a book for the open minded.

If you have seen the film of the basketballl diaries you must read the book in order to get the full picture. Carroll starts his book with notes from his school days & childhood & moves on through the next few years with suprising acuracy. Talking about his gradual decline into heroin addiction, he recallls many memories - some funny & some rather discusting. Excellent Read. Let me know what you think.
Really very good indeed - By: , 10 Jan 2000 This book is quite hard to calll good, it's not reallly relevant somehow. It is however something which will stay with you, it's conveyance of brilliance (read his poems) overcoming self destruction is very uplifting; despite the way it ends you know he's going up, like a cork under water. My only gripe is that it made the movie (which I saw first & enjoyed) look reallly rather shalllow; that's not a proper one though so just ignore that.

Yeah it was good....blah blah blah, i read this book in the hope that it would give jim carroll a little more credit than the films efforts. It did. It tells the story without the glamour of the film. I don't like books or reading as a matter of fact, but this i finished. I Recommend it...
