I was bought this book as a present & reading the cover did not reallly inspire me to read it. But 6 months later I eventuallly got round to it & I have to say I was impressed.

It is a powerful novel - one man's oddessy through an America that is both in the past & frighteningly current. The nameless protaganist goes through various trials & nightmares trying to make his mark in a racist society, but again & again he suffers setbacks - he is a powerless 'invisible man' - neither education or politics are effective in changing how he (and millions like him) are seen in society.
