A fun read. - By: William Marnoch, 29 Jun 2001
Giogioni Wyvernspur is considered by his family to be somewhat foolish & not up to very much. However when the family's heirloom (the magical Wyvern's spur of the title) is stolen from the family crypt & one of his family members is murdered Giogi is the only person who can solve the mystery. Although this is the second book in the Finder's Stone trilogy it does not have too much connection to the other two books so could probably be safely read out of order. It's not exactly the greatest fantasy novel ever written but it is fun & very readable, with a few interesting plot twists along the way.
A well-written fantasy novel! - By: , 13 Aug 1999
One of the strongpoints of this series has been the unpredictability of the books - in this novel, the shift of focus changes quite suddenly from Alias to the young nobleman. I won't comment on particular plot points so as not to ruin it, but the surprises are what kept me turning the pages. Novak's writing skill is sufficient to draw me in to the Forgotten Realms, making the characters real & the locations almost palpable.
A family secret and a mystery to be solved... - By: , 29 Nov 1998
The Wyvern's Spur was a great piece of work. Full of adventure & magic, mixed with intrigue & deception.
Kate Novak & Jeff Grubb make quite a team. Their writing complements each other so well that their stories come alive, & live in your mind long after the book has ended.
I would most definitely recomend this one. However make sure you start with Azure Bonds. You don't want to spoil & of the secrets.
Best Forgotten Realms book yet - By: , 05 Apr 1998
I've read nearly every D&D-related book TSR has published, & this is still my favorite by a wide margin. It gives us an interesting glimpse into the private lives of a semi-dysfunctional wealthy family, & the secrets that they've swept under the rug. It's funny & charming, with just enough action to keep the story moving, but relaxed enough to let the reader enjoy the scenery. Let's face it - none of these books are exactly "deep" - but is good enough that I've reread it several times. Try it - I think you'll like it.
Funny, witty, original and humorous - By: , 21 Aug 1997
Lovely! Very well-written. I enjoyed it very much. The plot was good & the characters were delightfully original & realistic- especiallly Olive & Giogi. Highly recommended, but you should read the first book in the series -'Azure BONDS'- first.
