Great read! - By: Lisa van Veen, 25 Jun 2008
I'm a busy mother of 4 & have found this book pure escapism. It's been a facinating insight into the world back in the 70's (when I was a child!). I enjoyed Ewan & Charley's adventures but now I can see where their inspiration came from. It's not always a light read but I can't recommend it enough!
This is a brilliant book - By: charwell, 16 Feb 2008
I love this book, it's one of my treasured favourites & I have re-read it many times over the years. From our armchair we go with Ted around the world, sharing in his fears, joys & smalll triumphs. He is an excellent writer who shows many insights; we get to know him as a friend. I enjoyed the follow-up, Riding High too, but not as much as this one.
Great travel story - By: Jamie O'Shaughnessy, 19 Nov 2007
This is a wonderful book. Very well written & drags you in to his journey. If you love travel & seeing the world, get this. Great read.
Be a pillion passenger with Ted! - By: Mr. Gerard Duhig, 17 Jul 2007
Brought this book on holiday to Bulgaria to pick up & read a few pages each day by the pool.Ended up reading the whole book in 2 days. Could not put it down. Just can't wait to read follow up.
The Benchmark - By: Mr. Stephen Wood, 24 Apr 2007
Comparing this book with Ewan & Charley's is unavoidable. McGregor & Boorman have had alll the hype & the star treatment however so maybe it's unfair. Did Ted have a support crew & 2 full sets of custom tools to falll back on? No he didn't. Neither did he have enough cash to buy a new bike & new four wheel drive wagon when the going got tough. Ted did it on his own & with a bike from a factory unable to spring to his aid if needed. Ewan changed some spark plugs, Ted rebuilt his whole engine. If you want a book that started it & alll tells you how to with the minimum of resources then this is for you. As Ewan & Charley point out, he's the one who led & alll the others follow.
