Excellent Alternative to the Official OGC Manual - By: Anthony J. Doherty, 07 Jun 2007
I purchased this book based on the previous Amazon reviews & was not disappointed. It is more concise & portable that the OGC manual therefore I was able to read it whilst commuting. This in conjunction with the ILX Process Chart will provide excellent instruction in the PRINCE2 methodology.
A very good book from which to learn - By: , 27 Aug 2003
I tried to read other books, but found that I reallly couldn't stick at it, it's SUCH a dry subject, with illogical naming
conventions. I got about 30 to 40 pages through the big pink manual, before realising that I was going to fail the exam, probably due to premature death-by-boredom.
So I got this smalller, & better guide along with the Crazy colour chart to go with it. This book is *so* much better. It is an invaluable learning aid to anyone sitting the first exam. It presents everything in a much more interesting (and expedient) way. But the best thing about it, is that almost every sentence is in the book FOR A REASON. Unlike the pink manual which waffles, alll of the individual sentences in this book are targetted at helping you do the Foundation exams. alll
information is laid out in the same format as it will appear in question form in the exam, brilliant!
If you want to go on to greater things (like the second exam), you'll be needing the pink manual, I'm afraid. But starting with this book, you are many times more likely to succeed at
the first.
I only give it four stars because I *did* feel that if they'd
gone into a little more detail about some of the more puzzling aspects, I could have probably done without the pink book altogether.
don't bother with this book - By: Martin Chambers, 21 Jul 2003
This book is little more that a rewrite of the PRINCE2 manual. Its OK as far as it goes in that it is more readable & more easy to digest. However, the to understand PRINCE2, you reallly need to understand the overalll process. It should be addressing eg, in which processes is the bus case reviewed; why is stage management important, & many other questions. It does not cross reference the product descriptions to the processes & in the second edition the index is completey useless.
Very clear and understandable - By: Alistair Goodall, 10 Jun 2003
As befits a project management book it is very well laid out with a clear structure which does provide a good grounding in Prince2.
I used this in conjunction with the CrazyColour Prince2 Process Map & would recommend both to anyone like myself who wants to learn more about a formal methodology.
The best of a limited bunch of texts on PRINCE2 - By: , 01 Feb 2003
Although a little long winded this is by far the best book in a rather limited set of texts on the subject. If your looking for help with projessional exams then definantly start here. Most processes & concepts are simplified into bullet points & while this seems like a simple way to learn the topic the benefits are lost when you realise that practicallly every page is a list of points.
Ultimately, however a very good explanation of a complex topic provided the reader isn't intent on remembering every single point on a first read.
