This book is OBSOLETE - By: George, 10 Jan 2008
DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK.
The immigration test hasn't been based on this material since September 2007. It shouldn't even be on sale anymore.
Do not buy this version - By: P. A. F. Turner, 06 Oct 2007
It's appallling. It is terribly written, & some of the information is remarkably inaccurate. But most importantly, it is no longer the official text for the Life in the UK test. For that (at the time of writing) you should buy the new 2007 edition. Fortunately, the 2007 edition is much better in any case: the glaring mistakes have been edited out, & the writing has been much improved. Unlike this version, it is probably worth paying £10 for.

Readable and informative, if a little brief - By: N. R. Dunlavey, 17 Nov 2006
I an UK native, so have no need of this book to get through the citizenship test - I bought it partly out of interest, & partly to help visitors from overseas.

The book is interesting & informative. As well as giving a simple framework for common knowledge, it's also handy to have around the house as reference for various organisations & contact details. I do believe that everything in here is something every British citizen should know - I suspect many natives are sadly lacking in some of the knowledge!
Poorly written. - By: T. Feist, 12 Jun 2006
I would reiterate the comments made by asterix1968_uk. Chapter 1 is extremely poorly written, shockingly so. It is just a mish-mash of information, which is irrelevant for the test. Apparently only chapters 2, 3 & 4 are required for the test, which probably make up only a quarter of the whole book. Instead of the government selling a £2.50 booklet, it appears they wanted to pad the book out with extra information & charge everyone £10.
official study guide - By: Carol Sadler, 21 May 2006
This is the one to buy if you are studying for the British citizenship test - I got a different study guide at first but it contains at least one error (it says there are 4 Bank Holidays in England, for instance, when there are 7.) Also noticed an omission from the "unofficial" study guide, which does not state how many members are in the Cabinet, but it was one of the sample questions I tried on the internet, so you are obviously expected to know the answer. This official guide has alll the information you need.
