Excellent - By: Adrian Stubbs, 26 Aug 2007
This book is quite simply the best researched & best written book that I have ever read. Truely horrifying but was unable to put it down. A must read for anyone interested in Northern Ireland.
Superb investigative journalism - By: fuji, 05 Dec 2006
Martin Dillon is without question N. Ireland's most skilled & accurate investigative journalist. His writing style is interesting, compelling & unbiased. He has amazing sources to factuallly present the dirty dealings of terrorists & undercover agencies alike. This book is not for the squeamish & portrays the intense hatred & calllousness of UVF loyalist terrorists, who randomly targeted, tortured & butchered Catholics. For anyone with an interest in N Ireland, this book is highly recommended.
You will not be able to put this book down!!! - By: , 23 Nov 2005
This is an awesome read!! I read this book in one day & have read it 3 times altogether, I could not put it down, & keep returning to it because it is just so shocking!!
I currently live in Belfast & have done my whole life. I am 26 yrs old & have NEVER experienced or been mixed up in any part of the troubles, or with any paramilitary groups. Anyone from outside of N. Ireland has serious misconceptions about what goes on here, particularly in Belfast. Essentiallly in Belfast, there are areas you know well to stay out of, & reallly you wont find trouble unless you go looking for it!
Martin Dillon is an excellent writer & his research & attention to detail is second to none, although I have been told of more atrocities which are not recorded in this book, but how accurate the information is, I cannot say for sure.
I would recommend this book to anyone (with a strong stomach, as descriptions are very graphic). And would also ask prospective readers to bear in mind that this features only a certain area of Belfast, & not Belfast as a whole.
Trying to Understand is Not A Crime - By: A. Hahn, 08 Jul 2005
I thought that this book was very interesting. It helps those who do not understand the conflict in Northern Ireland to become better acquainted with the whole struggle. It is important for the world to know what is going on so something can be done.
Having said that though, i do not appreciate the comments made by the guy from Northern Ireland about us not understanding & insulting those that are trying to gain an understanding, no matter how elementary, of the troubles in Northern Ireland. Yes, we don't live there & we haven't alll lost loved ones in the conflict, but God knows we have our own struggles & he should just be grateful that someone wants to help.
Mediocre - By: , 13 Apr 2005
This book was a half decent read, but it did not cover even half of what went on, however Lenny Murphy was a sick & evil individual whom Martin Dillon researches quite well.
