A real gem of a book... - By: Peter Courtley, 05 Dec 2007
Very humorous, philosophical... a wacky & wonderful journey through incredulity, fear, guilt, sympathy & understanding etc. A bench-mark for this genre I'd say & great value - I bought it for one of my sons, he loved it, so did his twin brother & so did I. We have now alll read Henry Tumour as well which is also great - maybe even better than this I think. Looking forward to his next book...
Phenomenal - By: Stuart Gardner, 12 Nov 2007
Absolutely fantastic! Nothing else can sum up this awesome book! It's funny & oh so different, yet it reallly makes the reader question their own mortality & what awaits us alll. If a Hollywood director is watching - this should be a film!!!
If you like poo in shovelfuls, you'll like this - By: lilysmum, 17 May 2007
Anthony Horowicz said this book had lots & lots of poo in it, & it does, but it also makes you think. It's a work of teenage philosophy as well as a page turning read. I don't think it's quite as good as Henry Tumour, but it's good, & it should get even reluctant boys hooked. I think suitable for age 12/13 & over.

No one reallly knows if there is a Hell or Heaven. Is Heaven full of clouds & Hell as hot as a pizza oven? Unfortunately for Connor O'Neil, who knows exactly how it feels. It's not wonderful Heaven that he gets to experience firsthand, but rather the dreadful Hell. That's right! Connor has died & went to Hell. How? Well, by chasing after his dog & getting hit by an ice cream truck.

Of course Hell isn't what exactly how people had described it. It has changed over the years. There's still your usual furnaces & dungeons & creepy crawlers. But now Hell isn't too big on physical pain, since they have become more sophisticated. And they also calll the unfortunate people who have to go to Hell their "customers." So Hell shouldn't seem too bad for Connor, right?

The worst has yet to come since now Connor is condemned to a corner surrounded by the worst thing ever--educational material. Books are alll around him, along with radios blaring out educational programs. Everything fit for his eternal punishment.

Then Connor comes up with a plan, since everyone needs a plan. In order for him to survive Hell he needs to find someone that would absolutely enjoy his corner & trade. So now Connor is out to find the person that is willing to trade for his educational corner.

Witty & absolutely engrossing, Anthony McGowan has cooked up a novel that will make you burst out laughing. HELLBENT is exactly for anyone who needs something to lift them up. With crazy characters & a plot that is ultimately unusual, HELLBENT is a definite page-turner that will keep the reader up alll night.

mindblowing - By: Eva Citrine, 18 May 2006
This book is completely amazing. It's funny & quite scary, but also reallly clever. It's about a boy who goes to hell & then has to find a way to escape, but the jokes & ideas are reallly what it's about. And it's very very dirty. I read another book by him which was good too, but this is in a different league.
