The Sirius mystery: Please give us a break!!! - By: Achaean, 06 May 2003
Contrary to what the title might suggest, this book is not
entirely about scientific evidence on an ancient Alien Contact
as the other reviewers might make you believe, but it also
focuses on Greek Mythology & Egyptian Theology, both of which,
he shamelessly cannibalizes.

The author begins by citing events, which supposedly prove how
at least two NASA(?!?) employees pursued something of a vendetta
against him, alllegedly attempting to prevent him of enlightening
the rest of mankind with his "forbidden" theories. He proceeds
later on to claim, that when NASA got tired of hunting him, they
enlisted the likes of CIA(!) agents to dicourage him further.

After having satisfied himself on giving away the US services,
he focuses on a formerly obscure African tribe by the name
of "Dogon" who hail from African Mali. He then proceeds to
make an in depth analysis of the unique heritage of those people
which seems to contain a lot of details on the star-system of

the constellation Sirius, like the rate-of-revolution of Sirius-
B around Sirius-A, the knowledge that Sirius B is a "heavy
star", etc. He even claims that the Dogon were in possession of
information on that Star-system, which scientists have only
recently come to discover, & that they could never have
possibly beeen able to acquire this information by themselves-
therefore they must have obtained it from somewhere.

The author suggests that the Dogon obtained this heritage from
Ancient Egypt, & he later claims that the Dogon were the
descendants of the "Guardians" of the desert oracle of Amon Ra.

That's where the book starts to get paranoid.

The author in a desperate attempt to attach some credibility
to his theory, draws heavily upon parts of Egyptian Theology,
Greek Mythology,& Sumerian Cosmogony which he boldly
transfigures to suit his theories. He thus is proved to be
wrong, by reaching unthinkable & absurd conclusions.

We thus learn, that the African Dogon are in fact the descendants
of the Greek Argonauts(!), that the Greek & Hebrew
civilizations & people are related to each other(!) & that our
Ancient Goddess Athena/Minerva is the same with Isis, & that
she was actuallly "Negro". (One of my Israeli pals nearly jumped
out of the window when I told him of Mr. Temple's conclusions.)

I wonder how Temple would explain the fact that Athena's Greek
statues (older than the Roman copies) feature Athena having
perfect Nordic features, & traces of paint found on a few
of her statues prove that she was thought to have blond hair &
blue eyes.(Ancient Greek & Roman statues where painted)

His absurd conclusions & obsessions aside, this is a moderately
interesting book, which could have even bordered upon the limits
of "scientfic & serious" (his study of the Dogon is not bad)
had he been subtle enough to restrict himself to citing mere
facts in the manner of, John J. Robinson for instance.

Three stars for his study of the Dogon alone.

Simply, the best argument for alien contact ever written. - By: tony.leibbrandt@btinternet.com, 23 Dec 2001
A hugely impressive, deeply researched, & very detailed study of the beliefs & knowledge of the Dogon tribe of West Africa by a great polymath. Essential reading for anyone interested in the possibility of alien contact, it will also interest those who study ancient knowledge & prehistory. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
A clear and concise presentation of fact - By: , 06 Mar 2000
Temple's book is a detailed & well-documented presentation of research results. He deals with a delicate & almost heretical topic in the eyes of many of his colleagues in a professional manner that is hard to dismiss. Highly Recommended!
A marvelous and fascinating Read of possible human origin - By: , 17 Feb 1999
If one takes the time to reason the immaculent impossibility that evolution could have achieved something as complex as the human speicies in such an apparent short space of time, while at the same time take millenia upon millenia to creat even the very basic of life forms on the planet seems almost, if not immpossible to believe. While I cannot say based on the assumptions that Robert Temple puts forth in his book the Sirius Mystery are alll correct, what I can say is that when taken as whole, one can only logicallly draw one immutable conclusion - that the idea that life here began or at least has its roots someplace else off the planet, possibly in the Siruis star stystem,is as good as any other idea, or evolutionary speculation put forth by modern science - I think even better. The idea that even if evolution is true, & I do in fact believe that science has proven that living things do change & adapt to various changes in the invioronment over time, however, they don't mutate into entire different animal groups. By this I mean, plants are always plants, a bird is always a bird, a fish is always a fish, a reptile is always a reptile, a monkey is always a monkey, & a humanbeing is always a human being. Body styles may very, along with color & various adaptations suited to ones own environment & his ability to survive. It seems logical that we should be able to see the missing links in the fossil record between animal group to animal group concidering the amount of fossils we have at our disposal. All we can see, however, is the similarity between one animal group & another. Physical adaptations change again & again over time but the underlying animal type does not change over time. The Sirius Mystery causes one to question the current scientific dogma of our time which totallly ignors the possibility of outside intervention from another scource, which on the face of things, is the only logical answer that can be given. The Sirius Mystery puts forth the very plausible notion that humanbeings are a cross between a type of ape now extinct & a devine being with human like qualities. The Bible as well as every other religeon with roots deep in the past seems to confirm this in one respect or another. There is a bond between us & our alien creator which is programmed into our DNA. This difference seperates us from alll other speicies of animal life on the planet. We are programmed & therebye demonstrate by design, our God like ability to build civilizations, build rockets & start new colonies on other plannets just like our creators did millenia & millenia ago on this plannet callled Earth using their own prevailing technowledgy. This is our God like nature right or wrong & our fullfilment/link to our alllien past. Thank You for your book Robert Temple.
A masterpiece!! - By: , 06 Apr 1998
The book itself is let's say an opulent spume of knowledge!! Mr. Temple deftly wrote his masterpiece & that is why I guess it looks so fecund for those of you who are voracious fans of alll the space mysteries, aliens & stuff like that. The flux is shown as a reallly very ebullient thing itself & also it wakes up your hidden temptation to re-read the book repeatedly, again & again. I still have sort of a spiritual exaltation of mine & I suggest you to try it out & to read the book by Robert K. G. Temple callled "the Sirius Mystery". Why not to open a new mystery for yourself??
