A week?? More like 3 days! - By: Sandra Gordon, 08 May 2008
This book is a little miracle. Following the advice in this book, my son was going to his potty without any prompting by the end of the first day. In three days, he was more or less fully trained & has had very few accidents since he came out of nappies. I was so worried about potty training & was expecting it to be a complete nightmare, but it turned out to be reallly easy - in large part due to this book. If you are thinking of buying this book, my advice is don't hesitate - you won't regret it. I certainly didn't!
Not a one-size-fits-all book - By: H. Wills, 04 May 2008
I followed this for both my children. It worked for one but not for the other. The preparation for potty training sections are good, to help you get your litte one used to sitting on the potty a certain times of day before the nappies come off for good & you go for it. But there is no advice whatsoever on how to handle poo accidents & how help a child who is not freaked out by number two's but who is never able to manage them on the potty.
much better than expected - By: C. Wilson, 24 Apr 2008
I tried much of the techniques with my 27 month son - & while it was more than a week he is doing pretty well - as she said if you & your child is ready it will work - if not it won't! Agree about style - if it doesn't work its is somehow your fault but if you ignore that lots of useful ideas & good points - like the idea of a cushion for car seat - also using a chart for you to see how the child is doing - didn't try the star chart as my son is too young in my view crw
Never EVER again Ms Ford - By: Katherine, 22 Apr 2008
Before this book, my two-and-a-half year old daughter was always happy to sit on the potty. I decided to use this book, tempted by the fact that she could be clean & dry in just one week. Don't be fooled! This book is prescriptive, rigid, inflexible & makes no account of your child becoming annoyed by the constant asking & reminding about the potty which is sitting right beside them. After alll, who wouldn't become totallly irritated & put-off 'performing' being asked every few minutes if you need to wee or poo? By the middle of Day Two my poor daughter was crying at the mention of anything toilet-related & distressed by the whole situation. She was refusing to sit on the potty & constantly wetting & soiling herself. We didn't have one success. We were both stir-crazy by being stuck in the same two rooms of the house for so long with the dreaded P-thing looming in the room, reminding us what a failure we had both become. Then I refer to the book & find that by Day Two we should be having more successes than failures & my child reallly should have cottoned on. At lunchtime I gave up for my daughter's self-confidence. It has taken three months to get her even close to sitting on a toilet or potty again & I can say without doubt that the Gina Ford Experience damaged her significantly. She is still not clean or dry (although I am trying again) & is now nearly three. I am consumed with feelings of being a failure & three months later, I know she still remembers the experience. If I could give this book no stars I would. Ms. Ford, with no children of her own, has a lot to answer for.
Potty Training in One Week - By: Mrs. Nicola C. Lofthouse, 29 Mar 2008
I think that this is the most amazing book for any parent who is worried about potty training their child in time for nursery!!
You do have to put in a bit more effort than one week, there is some preparation to be done. But believe me, it is well worth it.
I was worried that I was going to completely traumatise my son by seemingly abbruptly expecting him to do everything in a potty, when before he could do it in his nappy whenever & wherever he liked, but the key is the preparation!! Stick to the plan & you can't go wrong.
It took me till the end of the first day to realise that I was only traumatising myself with alll the worry, alll because I wasn't giving my son the credit he deserved!! By the time we started "the week" he knew exactly what to do! They know more than we think!!
