A Useful Primer - By: Jon D, 07 May 2007
A generallly well organised primer for those planning to take French to a serious level. The book is well laid out & the explainations are for the most part very clear.

There are one or two errors in the book (for example in the list of impersonal clauses that take the subjunctive - I hasten to add that my native French speaking teacher identified these, not me), but not significant enough to devalue it. The cross referencing is a little patchy in places & some of the exercises on the dry side, but then since when was grammar supposed to be fun!

The section on verb usage is mostly excellent but the section on pronouns would benefit from expansion & clearer examples. Overalll though, a very good buy.

Excellent - By: Heather, 07 Jan 2007
This is a reallly excellent book for learning French step-by-step. The explanations are clear & thorough, & it is logicallly laid out. I highly recommend it. The only aspect I found that was not quite perfect is the index - it isn't always easy to find something you know is in there from the index, but that is mainly because it is packed so full of useful information.
French Grammar - By: Claudine PROWSE, 29 Jul 2006
This is a great book packed full of explanations & exercises to practise the key aspects of each chapter. The book is split into sections including verbs, numbers, adjectives, adverbs, etc. Each chapter starts with the very basic concepts on the grammatical concept & builds on this with relevant exercises until the next step is introduced. The book is well-structured & builds up information, layer upon layer & methodicallly. All the answers are at the back. This "workbook" is excellent for filling in gaps of knowledge & for refreshing your French grammar, or for someone of intermediate level wishing to reinforce their grammar & to learn more.
