An old one but a good one - By: BM, 08 Aug 2007
I had this as a child & have introduced my own daughter to it. It is a funny & sweet book that adults will enjoy as much as children. The moral of eating lots of different things doesn't appear to have impacted on my children yet but I live in hope.
Lots of fun - By: , 03 May 2004
I read 'Bread & Jam for Frances' when I was at primary school & it's stayed in my memory ever since. The illustrations are beautiful, the story is funny but with a message too - that variety is important. One of the best things, though, is Frances' rhymes about food...reallly worth reading.
Another brilliant Frances book - By: Rupert, 18 Jun 2003
Russell Hoban has a knack of writing witty amusing books that are as much a joy for the parents as the children. Both our chidren (eight & five) love his books for the humour & the strong character of Frances that comes through each one.

In each book Frances goes through an experience & emerges a wiser (what? racoon? badger? person?) girl the other side. This may sound preachy, but it isn't, mostly due to the skill with which Frances is drawn.

In this book we are introduced to the problem of faddish eating, & see how Frances triumphs in the end. The song about jam which goes through the story is delightful.
