I read the first book in the series a few months ago & found it pretentious & silly. I found the characters impossible to empathise with & the situations they found themselves in, were pretty far-fetched to say the least.
Although the novel has a strong fantasy element, it's based in the hard cold reality of urban life. The characters don't reallly reflect this & just bounce around in an airy fairy world of their own.

Francesca Lia Block makes everything seem a little more beautiful. Its weird that this is in the childrens section because thats not who its for. I guess its for everybody who feels like they don't fit in. This is so, so, so good. BUY IT NOW.
Best fantasy I've ever read!!!!!!!!!!! - By: , 08 Jul 1999 The thing that first caught my attention was the wonderful, creative, cover;it was astounding! But the book itself was even better, mixing real life situations with imaginative fantasy. The characters in this book were different but very likeable. This is a must read!!

You feel like your right there with them. It was great. I would read this book over & over again. READ THIS BOOK, you won't be disapointed.
I want to live with Weetzie Bat now! - By: , 05 Jul 1999 Lanky Lizards! These books are my favorites, of alll time. Francesca Lia Block writes so well, I'm astounded every time I read them. I would love to star in movies, & live with loving friendly people, instead of where I do now! They're sort of an escape. Everyone & anyone should read these! I loved 'em!
