VERY GOOD BOOK! - By: , 07 Mar 2005
I have read many of R. Carlson's books. This one is definately up there with the best. It is on par with Stop thinking, Start Living. And much more helpful that the Don't sweat the smalll stuff-series.I have started to apply this principles to my life & was amazed. I can only say that I wish I had read this 20y ago. It would have spared me so much anguish in my life!
The book explains the different ways of thinking & when to use which! I realised that I have been using the wrong way of thinking for the wrong variables! It was as if a whole new world opened before me. So simple yet incredibly profound! I want to run out there & tell people about this information!
As unxpected side effect, unrelated to the material in the book, I have started losing weight after reading this book (and Stop Thinking, Start Living-UK title). I realised that by slowing down my negative thinking, my constant craving for food has also disappeared! I was able to "slow down" the craving thoughts as well!!! The weight is just fallling off! After years of eating to combat stress & emotional pain! Thank you Dr Carlson, Sir!
Buddhism made easy!! - By: , 11 Jan 2000
I think this book is great. Dr Carlson & his co author have made a bridge between great Buddhism wisdom & day-to-day life. They made diffucult to understand concepts become more understandable. Read this & you will know what kind of life you're meant to live. I'm practicing slowing down to the speed of life now.
Easy to read and apply! Filled with "Aha"s! - By: , 12 May 1998
This book is a must-read for alll! The authors provide clear, easy to understand examples & processes for "slowing down to the speed of life" - reducing stress, experiencing more enjoyment, eliminating procrastination - simply getting more out of every moment! This is a book you will be tempted to pass around to the people in your life you reallly care about!
Great book with misleading title! Many uses. - By: , 16 Feb 1998
An excellent book with very practical resources for taking charge of your own life. The title is a bit misleading in that the principles discussed can be applied to many problem areas, e.g., depression, anger, communication, relationships, not just stress or anxiety as the title implies. Another odd thing about the book is that the principles described are, for the most part, lifted straight out of Buddhist teachings, but the words Buddha or Buddhism are never mentioned, nor is much other specific information as to the "school" or "philosophy" of the book's ideas. So, if you'd like to learn about the psychology/philosophy of Buddhism without wading through the dogma, rituals, & other religious trappings, this book is a wonderful & practical place to start!
In the Sargasso sea of self-help books-this book has wings.. - By: , 31 Jul 1997
The age of self-improvement promises to bring us happiness if we......this book reminds us that we already posssess what we are searching for & that our busy lives are reallly a reflection of our busy minds. "Slowing Down" is a clearly written, non-mumbo jumbo explanation of how we create our reality of life via our thinking..the implication being that peace of mind is just a thought away. It contains concrete strategies for living in the moment & ways to reclaim what is ours at birth a built in capacity for health, wisdom, commonsense, & the enjoyment of life. "You cannot solve a problem with the same thinking  that created it" Einstein
