Response to above - By: S. Fleming, 20 Jun 2008
I have been looking for a copy of the above for quite some time & was surprised to read that the above reviewer thought the author (who is well respected)was illiterate.

I would like to point out however that the reviewer was the one who was confused by the very literate author. Anodyne, whilst not an antidote is a medicine for the relief of pain. This is exactly what Edward Rice meant when he wrote it. Perhaps for some a dictionary would not go amiss when reading this excellent (and thouroughly proofread) biography.
Illiterate - By: Mark Lilly, 13 Jun 2006
As is common nowadays, in both Britain & the US, books are published without any check as to basic mistakes of English. This one is especiallly bad; many sentences are meaningless & the vocabulary is alll over the place: 'anodyne' used for 'antidote', for example. Written in a hurry.
