Intelligent heroine? - By: normally a fan, 17 Nov 2007
Reallly, for an alllegedly intelligent woman to bed a man - many times - & not worry AT ALL about pregnancy is amazing. Particularly since she is a major land owner & knows that the penalty of having a baby out of wedlock is total disgrace & banishment. Yet Madelaine & Gervaise never discuss this; apparently it doesn't enter their heads. Also for Madelaine not to realise Gervaise wants to marry her - honestly apart from having it emblazoned on his forehead he could not make it clearer. How come she doesn't see it when her family, his family & the locals alll do? And she is supposed to be smart.

It's a good thing there is only one more in the Bastion Club series -- the repetitious story of the talll, handsome nobleman trying to win a reluctant woman (without any reason to be) is getting on my nerves.
Not too bad - By: Alison Knight, 04 Sep 2007
The Bastian Club started well as a series & I looked forward to the latest installlment. However, there's nothing new in this Lauren's title we've not seen before. Lauren's writes with a quick, lively pen, yet there's some depth lacking in her more recent works & I find myself prefering British Regency authors such as Kate Allan & Amanda Grange who combine the wit of the Regency with characters who reallly feel real.
