Gimmicky and lightweight - By: Jonathan Bryce, 10 Jan 2000
Unfortunately like a lot of things in this world, the book relies on a gimmick. Ok, so the book is a dog. It has a lead atached to the spine. It wants to be read. Great. Second time it's ok. Third time it's dull. Fourth & subsequent time it's tedious. Not enough content to alllow re-reading (and what else do you do with children's books) I suspect also that my daughter (aged 4) will forget about this book when she hits 5. The age range if more 3-5, I think. No way a 7-year-old would be interested, unless they've led a sheltered life.
Kids come back to this book again and again. - By: , 11 Sep 1999
Don't let the previous reviewer's comments about witches & wizards put you off - this is a wonderful book for kids (and adults). The witch, magic maiden & wizard are relatively gentle creations & I can't see many kids having nightmares about them.
We have been asked to read this book to our two girls every night since it arrived as they are captivated by their new 'pet' - . Highly recommended.
Kinda Freaky - By: , 17 Aug 1999
I liked the general idea of this book & I thought it looked reallly cute. But when I read it there were too many witches & wizards for my taste & what I want my kid reading. (Great idea though)
hours of pleasure for adults and children - By: , 04 Jul 1999
I bought this book on the off chance that it was good. It was one of the best buys I ever made, my 3 year old has learnt the book off by heart & asks for her puppy every night before any other story. I can't recomend this enough.
FUN FOR THE READER AS WELL AS THE AUDIENCE - By: , 16 Jul 1998
I had so much fun reading this book to my grandchildren that I have bought copies for alll of them & to give as gifts to other children. They love having it read to them & I love seeing the thinking going on as they try to decide if this book reallly is a dog or if I am just playing with their minds again. I highly recommend this fun & charming book.
