Excellent insight in to a complex talent - By: Ess, 30 Jun 2008
I was 13 years old when a neighbour gave me Use Your Illusions I & II, & from then on I followed Guns N Roses and, primarily, Slash as a character. Now at the age of 28, this book was my opportunity to understand my childhood hero beyond the top hat, & this book did just that. It of course has the stories or drink & drugs that you know it will, but unlike most rock stars who use their books to further their ego, I finished reading this book feeling like I understood what makes this guy tick, & what fuels his ambition & motivation. It was a great read & very well put together. I'd recommend it to anyone who was a fan of rock music from the 80's onwards.
Excellent I read it in 2 days - By: Haxel Rush, 26 Jun 2008
I loved the way this book was written.

It was so easy to read & better than any movie I seen.

It's a must for any GNR fan as almost the whole book is a GNR Fan wet dream.

10/10
I knew Slash was a hellraiser before i read this, but damn! - By: Vin_21, 17 Jun 2008
I found reading this book to be reallly captivating, I couldn't put it down as soon as it came through the post. Slash is reallly honest about his whole life to date, from his childhood, the highs & lows of being in G N'R, the Snakepit & Velvet Revolver & of course the sex, drugs & alcohol. He doesn't mince his words one bit about the whole sex, drugs & rock n' roll excess he's experienced which was in my opinion the most interesting part to read about. Also his relationship with Axl Rose is also interesting, from how they were close in the early days to the point where they were only communicating through their management in their final days. Overalll the book is reallly interesting to read, I knew slash was a hellraiser but once you read this it reallly does shock you.
Another Rock Biography - By: J. M. Salinas, 29 May 2008
Another rock biography.

Tales of alcohol excesses? Tick.
Tales of sexual excesses? Tick.
Tales of drug excesses? Tick.

So we have it alll then, or do we?.

Well, yes but. If you want tales of excesses, they don't come better than Motley Crue's The Dirt. If you want to know about the in fighting & history of Guns n' Roses, well, you should know it by now, but here it is first hand nontheless.

The problem with this book is that it is not insightful enough, just a mere recollection from Slash himself. It focuses primarily on his Guns years, swiftly going through Slash's Snakepit & wrapping the burst in the music scene that Velvet Revolver was in one single chapter. Only every now & then does Slash stop to contemplate & reflect on the personality clashes & reasons why Guns disbanded, but true to his nature, he shies away from those sort of musings, which is a shame.

This could have been a great opportunity to set out a biography more in line with Iggy Pop's Open & Bleed, but unfortunately, it is not the case. It is compelling because Guns were truly great, but this is a case of sytle over substance.

Gripping tale nonetheless.
A fantastic book. - By: L. L. Beddall, 25 May 2008
I am a fan of GnR & was looking forward to reading this book & I was not disappointed. It appears to be an honest account of Slash's life & in my opinion he comes across as modest, intelligent & grounded. He gives a frank account of his addictions, his love of music & we are left knowing exactly what he thinks of Axl Rose (albeit written in a way that cannot be deemed as slanderous). Highly recommended for any fan of rock music.
